Since J.J. has moved on to another job, Garcia is forced to take on her roll in this episode. Not only does she take on J.J.’s position, the team learns of a “secret life” Garcia is living outside of work.
Garcia, the Thespian, at TollGate Theater on “Criminal Minds”
This weeks episode of “Criminal Minds” opens with Garcia dressed in a black wig and dress doing a monologue about death. Hotchner outs Garcia to the team about her one person play at the TollGate Theater.
He does this to try to make her understand talking in front of a camera is no different than what she does at the TollGate Theater. I can see how he would do this since I have a phobia about public speaking to large gatherings. She tries to tell him this isn’t the same, but he won’t hear of it.
Morgan doesn’t understand why she could do a play about the type of work she does when she deals with it day in and day out. I can see his point.
Again we see her in her theater outfit sitting in front of a mirror finishing her act. As the camera pans around, the team is in the audience watching her performance at the theater.
Garcia has a Camera Phobia, Panic Attacks, and Needs a Talk Down on “Criminal Minds”
Garcia, the analyst on “Criminal Minds,” announces to the team she’s camera shy to the point of freezing up. She freaks out with the team and explaining her phobia.
I can relate to her in this episode when it comes to talking in front of a group with cameras. I have panic attacks very similar to the one Garcia had in this weeks episode.
Penelope states, “I prefer my 9×9 hole.” This is another thing I can relate to. I prefer working in a small area by myself with no more human contact than she has with her peers.
Morgan talks her down from her camera phobia. She does fantastic once she gets started. Even this week I needed to be talked down from a freak out I was having. Sometimes having those who know you talk you down from a panic attack and freak out can be a great way to lower your blood pressure.
It’s really a good thing that Kirsten Vangsness doesn’t have these issues when filming “Criminal Minds.” If she does, she really has her act together when doing the scenes she’s in.
