The Gardein Thai Trio is a vegetable stuffed meat-free protein and rice meal made with Gardein protein. A vegan protein made with nutritious grains and plant proteins and made famous when it was shown on the Oprah show.
Even though it is called Thai ‘Trio’ I didn’t realize until after I purchased it that it was 3 different pouches. Not a big deal. I just thought it was a stuffed veggie protein you stick in the microwave. The front photo shows sauce and rice but I figured that was just for looks, to sell the product. It really does contain a pouch of rice and sauce as well as the stuffed protein.
The stuffed Gardein chick’n and the sauce are sort of in the same pouch, just sectioned off. So, you have to be a little careful that when you cut open the Gardein “meat” you don’t cut the sauce pouch too or it will be a bit messy. It says to pour the sauce over the stuffed Gardein chick’n and then cook. I find that once you microwave it all the sauce melts off the “meat” and pools at the bottom of the bowl. It works for me though because I feel the plain basmati rice needs the sauce more than the chick’n.
The texture is of the stuffed Gardein chick’n is chewy and dare I say, meaty. If you are craving the chewy meaty texture this will surely satisfy. It will also satisfy your protein needs with a whopping 19 grams of 100% plant protein. The basmati rice is generous with one full serving. It is plain though so you may want to reserve some sauce for it is you are not for the bare rice. The sauce is also generous. There isn’t enough to dip every piece of chick’n and sauce the rice but there is enough to flavor the rice and enjoy some on your stuffed chick’n too.
I noticed right off the bat that the stuffing inside the Gardein chick’n has mushrooms and peppers. I like both mushrooms and peppers and it was a good balance to the “meat that surrounded it. Nutritionally this is a powerhouse in a small package. Along with the 19 grams of protein it has 15% vitamin A, 20% vitamin C, 10% Calcium and 35% Iron. It only has 250 calories and 8 grams of fat, which I feel is great for a complete meal. Don’t let the small packaging fool you. This is a very filling meal.
If you are a vegetarian, vegan of a diehard meat eater I say give Gardein Thai Trio a try. It is filling and packed with nutrition. You can’t lose.
