I have purses, ho boy, do I have purses. But I’m not a purse gal, per se. I actually use a grocery sack for a purse when I do need one (seriously) and my purses have quickly become play toys for the girls or gifts for my happy sisters. Here’s how to get a new purse for free or next to nothing in costs.
Trade purses with your friends, or trade them for something they would like for your new purse. When women graduate to a new purse, there’s usually nothing wrong with the old one, so you can easily trade a purse YOU don’t want anymore with a purse your friend/sister/mother/coworker doesn’t want anymore. I’ve gotten most of my purses via trade, and since I also don’t wear earrings or wear makeup (but I like to buy them…) I often trade new items I don’t use for yet another purse that will gather dust in my closet.
Check out thrift stores for super cheap purses. My greatest find was a new, with tags awesomely red Kenneth Cole purse that still had the store tissue inside for $2 at my local thrift store. I actually used this purse for about 3 months before I gave it to my little sister because she liked it and it was basically a glorified chapstick holder. The point is, you don’t need to spend huge dollars for a new purse- you can often get a great one on the cheap for next to nothing.
You can also get a new purse via purchases at Macy’s or major makeup department stores, as often if you buy a makeup package or spend a certain dollar amount on makeup you were going to buy anyhow, they’ll toss in a free purse along with your purchase. Sometimes if you stop by a booth in the mall, you can get a free purse or other goody by simply talking to the insurance salesman at the booth or inquiring about a new cell phone plan etc. I got a new purse by talking to a sales rep about getting a tanning package at a booth in the mall, even though I’ve never tanned a day in my life. My mom does these types of things all the time, getting coupons, movie tickets, purses, jewelry, and gift baskets, which we often get as presents come birthday or Christmas. It’s a great way to get free stuff all around.
Check out eBay. Often, if you look for bulk clothing purchases, the seller will throw in cool belts, purses, and jewelry as bonuses to encourage buyers to bid. I’ve gotten bulk clothing purchases simply FOR the single bonus purse, and then never used it. Go figure, but it’s another great way to get more for less.
