The Giants vs. Colts game has a great sub-story of Eli Manning vs. Peyton Manning Sunday. This Giants vs. Colts game means more than just the brothers playing against each other for the second time that they have been in the NFL, but it has to be a turning point for the 2010 Indianapolis Colts. After the Colts were beaten badly by the Houston Texans in week 1 of the NFL season, that should give this Colts team some extra energy for their home opener at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday night. The drama will of course play out in primetime for the East Coast, with NBC getting live coverage.
This could be the must-see Sunday night football game of the early season, with fans of the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants courting thoughts of attending the 2011 Super Bowl down in Texas. It’s only week 2 of the current season though, so there is a long way to go, and it could become an even longer route if the Colts don’t figure out how to play some defense. Giving up 34 points to Houston can be written off as faltering against a great Texans offense if the Colts can shut down the Giants this Sunday. Give up a lot of points for the second straight week, and heads are going to roll in that locker room.
On the other side of the field we have the New York Giants, who missed the NFL Playoffs last season and finished third in their own division. Winning their opener against the Carolina Panthers was something they had to do, as the schedule will get a bit tougher for them, beginning against the Colts on Sunday. There also might not be very many people outside of New York that things the Giants can beat the Colts, so they basically need to pull an upset to get to 2-0 on the 2010 season. It doesn’t get easier next week against the Tennessee Titans, so they don’t want to post a loss heading into week 3.
NBC is probably going to be looking at some great ratings for their week 2 Sunday night football game. Coverage begins at 5:20 p.m. PST (8:20 p.m. EST) on NBC, and it will bring a great end to the second Sunday of the 2010 NFL season. Can Eli Manning duplicate his week 1 numbers of going 20-30 for 263 yards and three touchdowns? Will Payton Manning be able to throw 400+ yards again like he did in week 1? The keys to this game will be the Colts rush defense and offensive running game. Succeeding in one of those facets, along with Peyton Manning throwing well, will spell out a victory for the Colts. Otherwise this game is going to New York.
