Glee may not have swept the Emmys, but fans are eagerly awaiting the show’s return as season two kicks off on September 21, 2010. FOX’s breakout hit did, however, snag two statues at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys, including Best Director (Ryan Murphy) and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Jane Lynch).
Glee season two promises even more drama, as we see some new faces at McKinley High School. Here is a rundown of newcomers to look for when Glee returns this fall.
New Glee Cast Member: Chord Overstreet
Chord Overstreet joins Glee as the latest addition to New Directions as well as the McKinley High School football team. He plays Sam Evans, an openly gay student, and will make his Glee debut on the season two opening episode. According to FOX, Sam begins as a protégé and later a rival to Finn (Cory Monteith). Rumors have been rampant that Sam will be Kurt’s (Chris Colfer) love interest.
Overstreet has previously played on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and appears in the new fall show No Ordinary Family.
What could be more appropriate than a glee club member named Chord?
New Glee Cast Member: Charice Pempengco
Charice Pempengco, 18-year old singing sensation from The Philippines joins Glee as an exchange student to give Rachel (Lea Michele) some competition.
Charice got her big break when she was spotted on YouTube. She subsequently appeared on Oprah, who convinced legendary music producer David Foster to take her under his wing. Her first album was released in May 2010.
New Glee Cast Member: Cheyenne Jackson
Cheyenne Jackson’s website confirms that he will replace Shelby Corcoran (Idina Menzel) as the new coach of rival show choir Vocal Adrenaline. You will recall that Corcoran had just adopted Quinn and Puck’s baby girl at the end of the first season. However, since Corcoran is Rachel’s biological mom, we may see her in future episodes.
Jackson is a seasoned stage performer, having starred on Broadway in Finian’s Rainbow, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Xanadu. He has also appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, and Ugly Betty.
New Glee Cast Member: Dot Jones
Dot Jones joins Glee as a McKinley staffer as the new football coach Shannon Beiste (pronounced ‘beast’-probably not a coincidence). Coach Ken Tanaka (Patrick Gallagher), apparently left McKinley High after Emma (Jayma Mays) broke his heart and crushed his pride when she called off their wedding to pursue Will (Matthew Morrison). Coach Beiste is expected to be a formidable rival to Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).
Jones previously appeared on Nip/Tuck as well as in the film 10 Things I Hate About You.
The highly anticipated return of Glee on September 21, looks to be full of drama already! A self-proclaimed Gleek, I can’t wait!
