There is nothing more powerful than the Bible. It is God’s living word and is what every person needs to truly live the way God intended for us to. That is why I will share five verses that have had impact on my life.
There are verses in the Bible that are particularly helpful to me during different times in my life. When I was working as a driver, my workstation was in a lobby that was also an entrance to a night club and bar. All sorts of people came through the lobby, and there were many times when I was distracted by people passing through. It was not unheard of for women to pass by wearing provocative clothing or others who were known prostitutes. During these times, I needed an alternate focus for my mind and eyes. I would come back to this verse: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3, NIV)1 I would use this to help clear my mind so I could focus on the task at hand, and not on passing distractions that could lead to negative thoughts.
Fame is Temporary; Give the Glory to God
The most recent Bible passage that has been on my mind is: “For, ‘All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.’ And this is the word that was preached to you.” (1 Peter 1:24-25, NIV)1 This has been very relevant to me as people around me get cancer, or even pass on at a relatively young age. I am reminded by God’s word that every day we have on the earth is a blessing and to never forget that. I need to thank God more for every day I’ve had, and I’m only 27. But tomorrow is guaranteed to no one.
Every Person Will Face Judgement
Another key passage that I like is: “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement…” (Hebrews 9:27, NIV)1 The reason I like this is because there are a lot of people who live like there is no God, or they have made themselves gods. The reality is that every person will be judged by God, and he judges us on a standard of perfection in thought, word, & deed. That brings us to this verse: “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.” (Romans 3:20, NIV)1 There is no one who has not broken God’s law. This is very important to understand. Everyone needs God, and good works cannot earn anybody the right to go to Heaven. After all, there are a lot of hard workers out there that do not acknowledge that God is the Creator of all things.
Worship the One and Only True God
Two key verses that I find very telling are: “…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11, NIV)1 These verses reveal that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is beautiful imagery that one day all people will bow to the King and give him the glory and praise that he is due. Many people forget that Heaven is where every moment is spent praising and worshiping God. I personally can’t wait until that day.
