With the election for Governor of Illinois growing near, things are starting to get heated out on the campaign trail. The two main contenders for office are Bill Brady (Republican) and Pat Quinn (Democrat and current Governor). Rich Whitney (Green Party) is also in the race but is not anywhere near Brady or Quinn in the polling numbers. According to recent polls, the numbers between Brady and Quinn are very close. This weekend the candidates were out on the trail trying to get the independent voters sway to vote their way.
Things have began getting heated between Quinn and Brady for a while now. They debated each other on television last week and you could see and hear the nastiness coming out. Both are focusing on important issues Illinois voters want to hear about with creating jobs and healthcare. While candidate Rich Whitney has been incredibly gracious about slinging insults, this week ahead should be an interesting one!
What do I think?
With the election being less than two weeks away, I am getting rather nervous. I am hoping the independent voters out there are really listening to all the candidates take on issues that should be important. In Illinois we have an almost 15 billion dollar deficit. Yes, that is right 15 billion dollars. We need a Governor who is going to help clean up the mess George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich created for us. Upon seeing the campaign getting heated, I am a little turned off to Pat Quinn. I am well aware of what Bill Brady is about (as I have said several times in previous writings) but Pat Quinn is really the only one that can beat him. I am a supporter of candidate Rich Whitney, I am going to be realistic and say there isn’t a chance for him to beat the Republican or Democratic parties. I am hoping however, that Quinn can pull a victory over Brady and save women’s rights in Illinois. With backing from such powerful people as President Obama and former President Bill Clinton, I am hoping Quinn can rake in those independent voters. Women especially need to be aware of where the candidates stand because this election is basically make or break for us.
Brady, Quinn, and Whitney all held rallies this weekend in hopes of gaining the independents support. Democrats for Pat Quinn were outside urging people to get out and vote in this election. Quinn campaigned on the west side of Chicago and Brady campaigned in the suburb of Crystal Lake. We have yet to see what will happen but we can be sure of one thing, this race will be talked about all week long.
