I must admit when I first heard about Jon Stewart of the Daily Show and Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report was putting together a rally on the Mall in Washington, I was surprised and confused of its purpose. To be honest, after about the first few minutes of hearing about it, I did not concentrate on it that much afterwards. I did finally locate it on Comedy Central and decided to watch a little. There were parts of the program that I found myself muting or just completely ignoring and other parts that I wished I had taped to watch over and over again. Here is my report card on the program.
• “A” plus for the montage of Stewart near the end rates an. The words that he spoke were so moving and motivating that I found myself wishing to call in the children to listen to what he had to say. My despair was that by the times the kids were rounded up, the most passionate parts were over.
• “A” to the musical guest who appeared with special mention of John Legend, The Roots and especially Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock. The song that Rock and Crow performed was amazing.
• “B” minus for the debate all program long between Steward’s sanity angle and Colbert’s fear. I could understand the message that they were attempting to portray but the delivery left a lot to be desired.
• “D” to the additions of the correspondence in the crowd, the Rabbi and the jokes. Much of it was quite boring and was the primary reason for the muting. I must admit, the Rabbi did make me feel apart of the conversation when he spoke about religions using their similarities to build upon, but the comedy seemed way over the top.
I have heard that some thinks that this rally was to get Democrats to the voting booths but I don’t really think so. I think the rally was about trying to get all of us Democrats, Republicans and Independents to realize that its okay to be animate about your beliefs and its okay to stand strong in the protection of them but do not forget or choose to forget that those who differs deserves those very same rights as you do. That being different does not mean that we can not work together to solve any issue as a matter of fact, the differences is the primary reason why we can solve those issues. But then that is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
