BOOM! Studios is no stranger to licensed properties but when they decided to turn the hugely popular film 28 Days Later into an ongoing comic book series it changed everything. Volume 1 – London Calling of the series collects issues 1 through 4. The series is written by Michael Alan Nelson with artwork by Decklan Shalvey.
The comic book series takes place directly after the original film but focuses on the character of Selena who must face her fears and journey back into Great Britain. This time her new companions are a group of American war journalists who want to get the real story first hand even after she tells them of the danger. London Calling is the opening story of the group making their way to London.
One of the best thing about this series is that Nelson does a spot on job capturing the tone and feel of the films down to the fact of you won’t know who will be killed or when since everyone is fair game. Shalvey’s art is dark and moody and a perfect complement to Nelson’s story.
With the comic book world over crowed with zombie based stories you’d think that there wouldn’t be enough room for yet another series but trust me this is one that zombie fans should give a chance since it is such a great addition to the genre. This volume is also light on the wallet as it is only $9.99 and for those who want a little something more there is a cover gallery at the end that showcases all of the alternate covers for the individual issues.
