There are so many affordable wines today under $20 in all varieties that would be perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. Many people believe that only white wines should be served at Thanksgiving. However, many others prefer a red wine because of the rich dishes served along side the turkey. Whatever you decide, there’s a perfect bottle of wine for Thanksgiving dinner to fit your budget.
Here’s literally some food for thought when buying wine for Thanksgiving dinner. Wouldn’t it be a lovely idea to incorporate great American wines when celebrating an American tradition? Domestic wines seem to inspire conversation which may add interest to your table conversation.
Here’s a list of my favorite wines for under $20.
Best Chardonnay Under $20
Chalone Vineyard (2008): Produced in Monterey County, this Chardonnay can hardly be beat at $10.00 a bottle. This rich chardonnay works very well with a traditional Thanksgiving day turkey dinner.
Best Sauvignon Blanc Under $20
Chateau Ste. Michelle (2009): Produced in the Columbia Valley in Washington State, this domestic wine is very light with subtle fruit flavors making this a very nice selection for appetizers before dinner. This would also make a good wine selection for those who will eat lightly on Thanksgiving.
Best Pinot Gris Under $20
Sinean (2009): Produced in Oregon, this highly acclaimed Pinot Gris will make you rethink purchasing Pinot Grigios from Italy. I’m a huge fan of buying domestic wines and this particular wine will make you fan of buying domestic wines too. As you would expect, this wine will go great with turkey and vegetables.
Best Pinot Noir Under $20
Cupcake (2008): Produced in Central Coast, California, Cupcake Pinot Noir is lightly acidic with cherry overtones which would works perfectly paired with sweet potatoes and turkey. A Pinot Noir is not for everyone but for those who like light reds, this a good choice for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and pairs nicely with heavy appetizers. I like this one so much I actually give it out to friends on their birthday. Cute, don’t you think?
Best Cabernet Sauvignon Under $20
Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells (2008): Yes, I’ve chosen another Chateau Ste. Michelle but I promise you will understand once you have tried this amazing Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington. This wine proves that you really can buy great wines for under $20.
Best Merlot Under $20
Brass Tacks Merlot (2007): From Central Coast California offers deep bold flavor for about $19.00 and works very well with the heavy side dishes often served with Thanksgiving dinner.
Sparkling Wine (Champagne Type):
Domain Chandon Blanc de Noirs: Unbelievable but true, a Moet et Chandon makes sparkling wine in the champagne method right here in the United States and it is not only unbelievably good, its affordable! I was lucky enough to take a tour of this vineyard over the summer and tasted so many different varieties of sparkling wine. I admit, I am hooked. I never thought I would enjoy a sparkling wine produced in the US but I do! This sparkling wine can be purchased for $20. The beautiful rose color is sure to put a smile on your guests face. Sparkling wine is not just reserved for special occasions at this price. For $20 champagne can be shared with friends and family for your thanksgiving dinner from start to finish.
