As a dedicated wrench head, here are the Christmas gifts I hope to receive every year when I race down the stars and marvel at the collection of offerings left by Santa underneath our tree.
Hypertech HyperPAC Auto Performance Computer
For the guy who seems to love his Mustang or Camaro as much as he loves his girlfriend, consider giving him the Hypertech HyperPAC Auto Performance Computer to monitor, test and even race his motoring creation. It’s not cheap, listing at more than $700, depending on the retailer. However, it’s less expensive than the engine modifications he has probably performed on his car. No doubt its much less than the custom rims and tires he has shod his car with. It’s the perfect auto enthusiast Christmas gift.
The Hypertech HyperPAC Auto Performance Computer will allow him to simulate drag strip runs and give him 0-60 or 0-110 or 0-150 mph times. The HyperPAC also contains a dynameters to calculate horsepower and torque at the driving wheels and the engine.
The Hypertech HyperPAC Auto Performance Computer also serves as an engine monitor and continuously displays engine operating conditions, air-fuel ratio, RPMs, ignition knock, oil pressure, water temperature, and more.
Installation takes about 10 seconds, the amount of time it takes to mount the unit and plug it into the vehicles diagnostic port.
NASCAR race cars
If you don’t have the nearly $28 million annual budget to field your own NASCAR race team, give your special someone the thrill of owning a die-cast replica of the speed demon driven by his favorite driver. At $59, you can go to NASCAR’s website and purchase 1:24 replicas of the cars driven by drivers such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon or Juan Pablo Montoya, for example.
Duralast Portable Battery Jumper
We all leave our lights on or accidentally short out a battery when we are working on car or truck. For emergencies and for a price that’s less than the cost of a AAA membership, give the Christmas gift that starts forever: a portable battery jumper. AutoZone offers this model $39 and it will come in handy the first time he starts searching for his roadside assistance card or the first time the temperature drops below 0 degrees.
Rent a Harley-Davidson
Harley_Davidson Motorcycles offers a daily rental program at many of its dealers and it makes an ultimate gift for any motoring enthusiast. One- and two-day packages along with weeklong rates are available. If you can’t give him a bike forever, maybe you can give him a Christmas Day gift rental.
Parts, Parts, Parts
At a grocery story, fine wine distributor or art gallery, I’m lost and I’m proud of it. You may feel the same way when you want to give your auto enthusiast husband something more than a glowing skull’s head for his car’s power outlet. Consider this: gift cards as a Christmas Gift for your auto enthusiast. Nearly every wrench head will need to replace a wrench that he lost or a tool that he broke. And he can always use the money. So offer a gift card. All of the major auto parts stores offer them.
Take Him Racing
There’s nothing more romantic than the sound of 43 cars screaming past you at 200 MPH while the scents of hi-octane fuel and motor oil mix with those of beer, pretzels and hot dogs. And you can only get this at NASCAR race. So take him as your Christmas gift. Thanks to the world-wide economic recession, attendance at most NASCAR events is down so ticket prices have never been cheaper. There’s even one-, two- and three-race bargains to be had at Daytona International Raceway, the birthplace of speed.
