Holidays. So many holidays. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Easter, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Groundhog Day, St. Patrick Day, and the list goes on. These are just a few of my American Holidays. We, the human race, have holidays in every season. Holidays for: political, personal, financial, religious, and ethnic reasons. So what are your most memorable holidays? Some holidays last for days. Some holidays last for weeks. Some holidays even last a lifetime. We can even have holidays on any given day for Birthday, Weddings, Reunions, and Anniversaries. Besides all these holidays, foods and activities are what we remember the most while being with family and friends.
Just imagine for a moment of coming home or going to a party, smelling the delicious aromas or seeing the following foods in all its splendor on display at the dinner or buffet table. Honey glazed ham, slow roasted turkey with stuffing, candy yams sprinkled with small marshmallows, homemade fresh bread or dinner rolls, freshly baked corn bread, casserole, cheesy bake macaroni, fresh pick green beans, deviled eggs, buttered corn, potato salad, and collard greens. Is your mouth watering, yet? How about having dessert? Freshly bake red velvet cake with coconut frosting; gingerbread; pumpkin, apple, and sweet potato pie with whipped cream; hot and sticky cinnamon buns; peach cobbler; sugar, peanut butter, and chocolate chip cookies; and cranberry sauce on the side. With all this food and desserts, what is your beverage of choice? Tea, soda, water, Kool-Aid, apple cider, Egg Nog, punch, beer, wine, and other forms of alcoholic beverages.
Besides the food, how do you make a holiday feel special or different from any given day of the week? Besides hanging up streamers and balloons, hiring a DJ or playing party music, having the perfect party location, inviting guests, and having activities like sports or board games to keep your guests entertained, you need a party them. A party theme makes a holiday more memorable to you and your guests. You can have a pool party, costume party, pizza party, skating party, a dance, a baby shower, and the list goes on. Just like holidays, party themes are limitless. What are your great holiday food and party ideas? I hope my list helps you with your holiday plans. To all, Happy Holiday!
