Available exclusively at Walmart stores, the Great Value Golden Creme Cakes look exactly like Hostess Twinkies. Not only do the cakes look like Twinkies, they also taste just like Twinkies too. There’s no noticeable difference in quality and there’s definitely no difference in quantity. Ten cakes come in a box just as ten Twinkies come in a box. Since it’s a Walmart product however, the Great Value Golden Creme Cakes can be purchased for two dollars and eighteen cents while the Hostess Twinkies sell for three dollars. By purchasing the Great Value brand over the national name brand product, a customer saves himself or herself money without having to settle for an inferior product or a product that contains fewer cakes. If a difference in quality does exist between the two products, it must be insignificant as both snack cakes seem pretty much identical in flavor and texture.
Exactly like the Hostess Twinkies, the Great Value Golden Creme Cakes are made up of soft, sponge cake that houses a rich creme center. The golden sponge cake has a sweet flavor to it as well as a sweet aroma. The cakes come fresh in a box and hold up well for several weeks without growing stale. The spongecake is filled rather generously with sweet, light creme that sometimes oozes out when a portion of the snack cake is bitten off or broken off. The creme is sugary and pretty much dominates what flavor the spongecake has to offer. Perhaps since this is really a relatively simple cake it should come as no surprise that Walmart was able to duplicate the Hostess product so accurately. It is after all basically just spongecake and sugar. Still, the cakes make for a tasty treat every now and then.
Now that there’s a Great Value version of Hostess Twinkies, there’s simply no reason to spend needless money and pay for the more expensive name brand product. What the Walmart Great Value Golden Creme Cakes have to offer over the Hostess Twinkies is value. They’re a better value since they cost less yet taste just as good and just as many cakes come in a package. These cakes really are one of those guilty pleasure type snacks. There’s next to no nutritional value, but they do look appetizing and taste good. At least when purchasing the Great Value brand, the cost of advertising and brand name aren’t being factored into the price and so, the price of the product better represents how much it cost to make and be packaged, thus the Great Value product is more fairly priced and that makes it the most attractive of the two.
