(September 28, 2010) Austin, Texas– A gunman has opened fire at the University of Texas today in Austin. The campus has remained on lock down since the incident; police are worried there is a second shooter. The name of the killer has not been released.
The man apparently walked into the Perry Castaneda Library this morning and opened fire with an automatic weapon. He then turned the gun on himself. The incident happened at the main library at the University of Texas. At this point the gunman is dead and no other injuries have been reported.
All students received texted messages warning them to stay away from the library and the doors to the facility was locked.
It had been reported the gunmen was running down the streets firing random shots.
A graduate student reported he heard bursts of gunfire and said students were walking around campus dismayed. For those who may remember this is not the only time a shooting spree has happened on this campus, back in 1966 Charles Whitman a student at the college went on a shooting spree killing 14 people and hurting more.
