Hair color is going to become even more popular moving into spring of 2011. However, we aren’t talking about your mother’s hair color. Today’s colors are wild, wacky and whimsical.
The redheads have it. Red hair has always been held in high esteem, although few women could actually carry it off and make it look au natural.
The good news is that natural need not be a worry anymore. Fake red, a la Lucille Ball, is becoming just as popular as the real deal.
Lucy used henna to achieve her unusual red color and many of today’s women intend to follow suit. A temporary color is also good for making a trial run because it can be abolished if it doesn’t achieve the desired outcome.
New color glazes can also add a hint or wash of color on top of what Mother Nature bestowed. That provides the best of both worlds ‘” both old and new ‘” without worry about too much damage to the hair.
That doesn’t mean that today’s women will rule out semi-permanent or permanent hair colors. Red hues range from strawberry blonde to deep burgundy. There is something for just about anyone wishing to pump up the hair volume.
Highlights, chunking, and pelting will be hotter than hot as the seasons progress into the new year. Whether color accents what is already possessed or brings in a brand new layer, it will certainly bring attention to heavenly locks by adding in much needed definition.
Blonde highlights remain the most popular. They can be very effective when done in the right tones for the natural hair color. However, they can also call the wrong type of attention if they are poorly done. This is a case when spending a few dollars with a professional colorist is the way to go.
Chunking and pelting will also be popular among women who want to express a rebellious streak or who are yearning to release their inner rocker. Chunking is different from pelting in that it can include hues of any color from blue to platinum. Pelting, on the other hand, usually incorporates various hues within the same color group.
Blondes are never out of style and they will always be popular. Anything goes from platinum to dishwater and even into shades of blue and gray. That’s right. Today’s beauty savvy woman may actually choose to go gray. Who would have thunk it?
Dark hair will go even darker as brunettes opt to deepen their shades by several points. Browns are going to border on black and blacks are going a dark raven blue. Also expect a kick of eggplant or deep cherry to add a warm shimmer of color to those dark tresses.
The paler the skin, the deeper the shade for today’s new brunette. Think “Twilight” and you will catch this color drift, which is literally out of this world.
Avant-garde is part of today’s new color mix as well. Look for shades that don’t usually appear together like golden blonde with orchid streaks; russet red with pink chunks and blacks with green hues. Whether color is streaked in or clipped in via extensions, it will be bold, brazen and breathtaking.
Ombre hair is one of the most popular hair color trends of the season. It can go from the lightest of blondes to the deepest of blacks for a strong “look at me” demand. It might also choose to remain within the same color family for a softer, more delicate appeal.
Today’s color trends all depend on the woman and her level of commitment to change. Either way, look for hair that definitely makes a unique and strong statement.
