Like you, I was born with naturally curly hair. Not the pretty wavy hair or the kinky curls, but somewhere in the middle. My curls are very non-uniform, frizzy and never do what I want them to. If I could keep my hair wet all day I would be happy! I have spent hundreds of dollars on hair products, desperate to find one that works.
The problem with styling products for curly hair, is that what works for one person, may not work for the next. We all have different hair types, thickness and curl density. If you’re like me, you absolutely cannot just air-dry and be on your way. If I plan on wearing my hair down and curly (as opposed to spending two hours straightening it) I have to use lots of hair product. Which brings me to the Curl Spulpting Cream-Gel by Garnier Fructis.
This purchase was merely an impulse buy. I was out shopping for shampoo and conditioner and noticed Garnier was making a new line of styling products. I saw the sculpting cream and since it was reasonably priced, I figured I would try it.
What I first noticed about this product is the consistency. It is a cross between lotion, conditioner and hair gel. The directions say to use a palm-sized amount, but I have long, thick hair so I used about 1/4 of the 5 oz. bottle for just one day. You want to put it on when your hair is wet, without touching it too much. The trick to keeping frizz down in curly hair is to touch your hair with your fingers as little as possible!
If you have medium or long hair, I suggest flipping your head over and applying the Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel while scrunching your curls. I don’t recommend using a comb to distribute it evenly, just apply a little bit at a time to each section of your hair. If you have long hair, it’s going to take quite a bit of product to cover it. Don’t worry about how sticky your hair feels, once it’s dry that will go away. Some curly-haired folks like to use a diffuser but I prefer to air-dry once the product is in. Remember once you are done putting in the product to touch your hair as little as possible.
The first thing I noticed when my hair started to dry, is how kinky my curls got! The curls became so defined and bouncy, that the length of my hair went from about my elbows, up to above my shoulders. This product did give my hair a slightly crunchy feeling that you might expect from hair gel, but nowhere near what regular gel does. It is closer to the feeling of leave-in conditioner. I also noticed my hair wasn’t nearly as frizzy as on a typical day.
What I love about about the Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel:
It is reasonably priced (about $3.00 for a 5 oz. bottle), it makes my curls bouncy and defined and it gets rid of most of my frizz. It also lasts for quite a while.
What I don’t love about the Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel:
Because I have so much hair, I have to use a lot of product and the bottle is quite small. After 4 days of use, the bottle is empty. It also leaves your hair a bit crunchy.
Overall I am quite satisfied with this product, and use it at least a couple days a week. I have yet to find the perfect product for my stubborn curls, but this is as close as I have gotten so far!
