Another year is on its way out in the blink of an eye. Hair, fashion, and cosmetic trends flash in and out of the spotlight so quickly it makes you dizzy. However, after taking a look back at hair styles of 2010, it gives me a pretty good idea of what to expect in 2011.
The bob exploded onto the scene again, this time a more perky variation in late 2008 and by 2009-2010 the over-all shape and texture of it just kept getting better. Pops of brilliant color emphasized the chopped up layers throughout, giving it more bounce.
Pixie, fairy, or elf, the cut is to-die-for cute, and I have got to have it! Carey Mulligan is a living doll in this short, short look. Want to add even more pizazz, take it a step further with some wispy edges. Brighten these feathers up with bold hits of lightener, or go dark against a lighter color for drama, drama, drama! Just adding a splash of color makes this already sassy style even more fabulous!
2010 was full of cropped and choppy bobs. Remember Victoria Beckham’s extreme blond A-line bob? Who could forget it? She then dazzled us with her heavily low lighted A-Symmetrical choppy fringe; and finally, she sent us into a state of dizzy delight when she cut it all off pixie short. The icing on the cake was when she added luscious all over dark color for the finale, “mercy me!” Mrs. Beckham is certainly one to watch in 2011 again as her forever revolving style, whether it is hair or fashion, is one to copy.
Katy Perry my favorite pop starlet burst onto the music and fashion scene with her blue hued hair and pin-up girl make-up. Katy loves the glamor girl look and I believe she could be solely responsible for the resurgence of the siren red lips and Jane Russell like styled coifs, cut offs, and strapless bodice. Katy is such a style maker- I want to give her a big smooch, and I think I’d like it! Who wouldn’t?
Give me a boxy hairstyle any day. That’s right I said it, “Chop off that 2010 geometric bob” Blunt edges are back baby, and this -cut combined with a mid part, choppy textured bang- dazzles in fire engine red, solid dark black, or chocolate brown with spicy highlights. “Be daring,” I say. Go all over pale blond or sizzling silver and you will be the talk around the water cooler for weeks to come!
“Do something with that mane of hair already!” One length hair is ho-hum. Add some choppy layers or a thick fringe of bangs and than color, color, color! Did I mention that you need color in 2011?!? Start the New Year off with a hallelujah and an Amen Sista! 2010 saw a trend of grown out highlights blended into super light or dark ends. No more of that snooze fest! Why not all over deep and rich with fabulous tips of color played out here and there? Part that mid length hair down the middle and let the sun peek through strands by adding pieces of bright golden layers, or deep mahogany woven throughout.
2011 promises to be filled with texture, color, and vibrancy. Short hair is going to dominate the scene with cropped pixies, beveled bobs, and choppy short punk styles. Long hair doesn’t have to be blah, make it beautiful with smudges of color here and there, and chunky face framing layers! Looking back at hair style trends of 2010, and I can see 2011 is going to dramatic, bold, and always evolving! Hold onto your saddle because it’s going to be exciting!
