Among the most fun costumes a modern couple can wear for Halloween festivities are those depicting famous couples from history or show business. Choose those that are instantly recognizable, and they will get the most laughs and compliments.
Perhaps the simplest would be to dress as Adam and Eve. Depending on the occasion, such as an adults only party, and how outlandish and daring you want to be, your costumes are certainly the easiest to make at home.
Just cut out some large fig leaves of green cloth, sew them strategically on skin-colored bikini swim suits, and voila…you become the occupants of the Garden of Eden! For a companion, make a serpent by stuffing rags into a long stocking and adding buttons to the tip for eyes.
Another simple, inexpensive costume idea for couples are those for a caveman and his mate. Just get some fake fur pieces, then cut and tear them to resemble animal skins. Wrap some over your shoes or go barefoot. One or both buy a large wig and beard combination to complete the comic prehistoric effect. A large, paper mache club would be a nice accessory.
If you have or can borrow formal clothing already on hand, consider dressing as window dummies at no expense. Additionally, if you can do the jerky-movement routine, you could also be mechanically-moving window dummies. All you need is a tux and an evening gown. Use exaggerated make-up with lots of rouge, lipstick , heavy black brow and eye liner.
With some creativity, you can make your own costumes. They won’t be as simple as those for Adam and Eve, but others are worth considering. For example, Caesar could wear an easy to make simple Roman toga, while Cleo could refer to the exaggerated make-up, hair and dress example from the Elizabeth Taylor movie about her. Additionally, like Adam and Eve, Cleo could carry a fake snake, only much smaller.
It would be more fun if you could make your own costumes. However, if that’s not convenient, check with local stores for costumes you can rent or buy.
Other loving couples’ costumes to consider imitating are Caesar (or Antony) and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, George and Martha Washington, Abe and Mary Lincoln, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, Rhett and Scarlett, Mickey and Minnie and Donald and Daisy.
There are many other costume ideas you can pursue, including contemporary subjects. How about dressing in military camo gear as male and female GIs. Could you go as a female couple dressed in prison stripes, representing Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. You’d also need long blonde wigs and tons of make-up, as well as samples of those funny little illegal cigarettes.
With some creative cleverness, you can show up at a party or walk a neighborhood trick-or-treat beat wearing the very best couples’ Halloween costumes for 2010.
