The white pumpkin trend continues! This chic black and white monogram project looks extremely classy when finished and costs very little to create.
For this project, you will need:
– One fresh pumpkin of any size or shape
– Soapy water
– Paper towels
– Painter’s tape
– Craft paper or dissembled paper bag
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
– Large monogram shaped stencil
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Before starting this Halloween monogram pumpkin project, it is best to first cover the space where you will be painting with a drop cloth or several sheets of old newspapers. Wash the outside of the pumpkin with warm soapy water to remove any existing dirt or debris. Wipe down the entire pumpkin with paper towels to dry. In addition, leave the pumpkin to air dry a little while before continuing.
Cut a small strip of painter’s tape to cover the stem of the pumpkin until the end of the project. Prime the entire pumpkin using a thick coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Absolutely no orange should be showing through. Let the primer set for about a half an hour. Paint the entire pumpkin using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Dover White. Wait twenty minutes, apply a second coat of white paint, and dry for a few hours.
Place the sheet of cardstock onto the self healing mat. In pencil, trace the monogram design from a stencil onto the paper. (The size of the monogram will directly relate to how large of a pumpkin you are painting.) Carefully cut out the monogram design from the cardstock with a craft knife. Discard the cutout.
Adhere the remaining piece of cardstock to the side of the pumpkin using painter’s tape. Make sure the cardstock will in no way move around while you are working. Cover any other remaining areas except the monogram design with craft paper and/or a dissembled paper bag.
Paint the exposed monogram design with three to four coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Dry overnight before removing all paper, cardstock, and/or tape from the pumpkin to expose the painted monogram design.
TIP: You can also start with a white pumpkin versus painting an orange pumpkin white.
