There are plenty of Haunted Houses and other dark places in Dallas/Fort Worth to get scared at this Halloween. Who knew North Central Texas had such a dark, malevolent past?
And just in case you really like being scared, you don’t even have to wait until October to get your scare on. A lot of the Dallas area Haunted Houses open early, trying to claim as many new victims as possible.
If you’re afraid of ghosts and madmen, here are some of the places in Dallas/Fort Worth you may want to avoid for the next couple of months.
Hangman’s House of Horror, I-30 & Forest Park Blvd., Fort Worth
Tours through this haunted house take about a half-hour. In addition to the haunted house, there are three side attractions: the Swinery, Obscurities, and 3-D wonderland, as well as live music, a midway with rides, games and concessions.
It starts getting scary at Hangman’s on September 17, and continues through October 31. For complete calendar, pricing, and to purchase tickets, visit the Hangman’s website.
Slaughterhouse, 2615 Elm St., Dallas
Billed as “a real nightmare on Elm Street,” Slaughterhouse is very graphic and not for children younger than 10. Maybe it’s too graphic for all but the most hardened gore lover!
A terrifying sneak peak takes place on Saturday, September 25, from 9 pm to midnight. Check website for regular days and hours, and a coupon.
The Haunt House, I-30 at exit 83, Dallas
When the carnival with the Haunt House came to town, people went missing. Police found 26 bodies being used as props for the gore-seeking public traveling through the house. The Haunt House made the news again in 2009 as more people went missing, and now the house seems to have changed and grown even bigger.
Do you dare to see if any of the props are real bodies, or are you too afraid you’ll become one of them? Find out starting September 18. For a complete list of dates and times The Haunt House is open, click here.
Cutting Edge Haunted House, 1701 E. Lancaster Ave (intersection of I-30 & I-35), Fort Worth
One hundred years ago a meat packing plant was abandoned, and is now called “Hell’s Half Acre.” This is the Cutting Edge Haunted House, 235,000 square feet of fear you have to walk through, avoiding ghosts, some of them from the Texas Chainsaw Massacres, and even a Santa ghost!
The terror starts September 11; check the Cutting Edge website for a complete list of days and times, or to buy tickets.
Chaos Haunted House, Texas Scaregrounds, 800 W. Kennedale Pkwy, Kennedale
Lots of bloody bodies-are they dead or alive? Are they chasing you, or are you safe as you wander through Chaos Haunted House?
Find out starting September 17; or on any of the other dates you’ll find here.
Terrorplex, 6921 Bennett Lawson, Mansfield
Terrorplex is waiting for you with four haunted houses to scare you senseless:
Wolfman’s Curse: Poor Kyle Anderson went insane after seeing “The Wolfman” in 1941. He bought a theatre and now stalks those brave enough to enter, believing he is himself a wolfman. He was caught once, but escaped….is he back at the theatre?
Van Helsing’s Haunted House of Wax: Van Helsing traveled the world hunting the worst monsters, then brought them home and encased them in wax. But now it’s possible the wax is no longer containing them.
Heavy Metal Maddness awaits you if you’re lucky enough to escape the house of wax. You might find the maze easy to navigate, or it might take your sanity-or your hearing.
Midnight Manor: Crazy Dr. Morbid experimented on his patients, then hid their bodies in his Victorian manor. If you enter, will you find any of them?
Limbo: Twist and turn through Limbo, an outdoor maze, also known as that “special part of hell where people suffer no pain but are denied heavenly bliss.”
All Terrorplex horrors open starting September 17; for a complete list of dates and times, click here.
The Boneyard, 2921 E. Division St. Arlington
You’ll see lots of bones at the Boneyard, in the grill or the courtyard, or maybe next to you, or are those your bones you’re seeing?
Prepare for the scare starting September 24. This is a rain-or-shine haunted house; for complete dates and times, and online tickets, click here.
