It was 11:00 PM on Halloween night and I was in bed fast asleep. Suddenly, I got woken up by the shaking of my bed! Once I was awake the shaking stopped, but then I heard someone whistling. I got out of bed when the whistling stopped, and, walked to the door to open it but it would not open. I tried and tried but could not get the door to open. While I was pulling on the knob, I heard the whistling again, and, suddenly the door flung open!
I walked into the kitchen and everything was quite. I went down the basement steps and just before the last step, I heard a loud creek! These steps never made noise before this. So, I was frightened out of my mind! Just then I heard the whistling again. I bolted down that last step because the whistling was coming from the kitchen! The whistling stopped and I started to hear the clanking of pots and pans upstairs in the kitchen. After that I froze, and, then when I looked down at the floor I noticed the cats litter boxes were clean even though I had not cleaned them in almost a week.
After seeing those clean litter boxes I felt a cold chill all around me! I ran up the basement stairs forgetting about the sound of the clanking pots and pans. Then when I reached the top of the stairs I saw and heard nothing.
Next, I checked out all the bedrooms, the living room and dining room and saw no one. So I went back to the kitchen again and smelled the aroma of something baking. I turned on the kitchen light and saw a batch on brownies cooling on the counter. I checked the oven to see if it was on. The oven was turned off but still warm.
I noticed that the whistling stopped and all I heard was the wind or an animal howling. Yet, there was no wind outside!
I decided to take a shower to make sure I was not dreaming. After getting out of the shower, I heard Moonlight Sonata being played on our 200 year old piano in the living room. The piano had not been tuned in 15 years and had pings and rings in it, yet it sounded like a brand new piano while that Sonata was playing. Chills went up and down my spine and I stayed in my room because I was too petrified to go to the piano.
After the piano stopped playing, I came out of my room and then I heard this howling like a coyote but did not see anything. I went back to the kitchen and looked at the brownies again but something had changed. They looked different! I suddenly realized that they had frosting on them that I did not see before when they were still hot.
I did not touch the brownies because I still thought I was dreaming. I went to my bedroom to turn the TV on but it was already on. The station was Animal Planet! I decided to go ahead and watch Animal Planet because my deceased wife and I used to watch that all the time and I figured that was where the howling noise I heard came from.
Then, I dozed off to sleep but was woken up again by the sound of the piano playing that same song again. The song my diseased wife used to play everyday…Moonlight Sonata! I went to the bedroom door but was too afraid to open it because of that sonata being played again. On my way back to bed I noticed a plate of those same brownies that were in the kitchen now on my bedside stand that I just left 1 minute ago. I was not sure whether to eat them or not but figured! Oh, what the heck if she has come back to help me out, that is fine with me! All the signs of my dead wife were there! Her favorite song playing on the piano, her love for baking and her whistling!
I decided to go to the kitchen to get some milk for my brownies. When I turned on the light, I saw a tall glass of freshly poured milk on the counter. I was still quite freaked out! However,at that point I loved the attention I was getting and had missed so much! I retrieved the glass of milk and went back to my bedroom to polish off those brownies, because her brownies were “TO DIE FOR!” I finished half the plate of brownies and felt very full. I started to doze off but got interrupted by the whistling again!
I turned on the TV and tried to get another station besides “ANIMAL PLANET” but all the stations were the same! Then I heard the howling again and saw my deceased pet Labrador Retriever, “Cocoa,” on the TV screen! He was talking in a human voice to me! He said, “I miss you Daddy, but, please “DO NOT EAT THE BROWNIES!”
