Did you know there are many different kinds of spider earrings you can make for Halloween? Since spiders are appropriate as accessories for many different outfits they’re the perfect craft for this time of year!
Make one set of spider earrings by starting with a pair of metal rings. The rings can be as large or as small as you want. You’ll find some rings that work in the jewelry-making department. Key rings, brass rings and similar types are just some of the choices.
Lay the chosen ring flat on a table and apply glue to the entire surface. Cut two pieces of thread to form a “+” shape. Cut two more pieces and place them so that they go between the arms of the first “+” shape. The finished shape should be similar to an asterisk shape and will create the look of a spider web on top of the ring. When the glue is dry cut the excess thread off and glue a tiny spider to the center, where the threads intersect.
Cut a piece of fishing twine, or something similar, and thread one end through the hole of the earring hardware. Bring one end through the ring, then up to the other end. Tie the two ends together, pulling the twine so that the ring goes nearly all the way to the earring hardware. Trim the ends of the thread and position the knot behind the ring. Add a dot of hot glue to hold it there. Allow the glue to dry for two seconds before pushing the knot into it.
Create a different design when you omit the spider in the center of the ring and add a spider that hangs down from the ring. Cut a length of string and thread it through the ring, at the bottom. Bring the ends together and use a tiny bit of glue to attach the ends to the backside of the spider. Or, combine the two ideas and add a spider to the center of the ring and another one that crawls down the dangling string.
If you don’t have a set of metal rings you can use to make earrings you can still make them with cardboard. Cut four identical circles to be the size you want the finished earrings. Cut the four circles from very thin cardboard. Cut a piece of fishing twine and thread one end through the hole of the earring hardware. Bring the two ends together and glue them to one of the disks. Now glue a second disk on top of the first one, trapping the twine between them.
Wrap the disks with the chosen twine or yarn to make the look of the spider web. After wrapping it several times, cut the yarn, then glue the end to the middle, on the backside. Glue the spider(s) to the web.
Anyone can easily make spider earrings for Halloween even if they’ve never made earrings before. Make a matching necklace by threading a cord through a loop of twine on the circle. They earrings and necklace are simple to create but look fabulous with many different outfits.
