Halo Reach: Solo Legendary Campaign Guide
The Package (9th mission)
(A few notes, before the guide:
1) I am not claiming this guide is the easiest way to complete this mission. I’m simply offering advice, strategies, routes, and locations to those interested or struggling, with the hopes that this will help them complete the level
2) I will have a video of this on my Youtube account within a few days’ time of this being published. Please check out my channel (www.youtube.com/compohsed) if you’re lazy and don’t want to read, or want a visual of what I’m talking about. The video will be commentated over with similar information to what I provide here)
You’ll start out behind a building partway in the lake, sneaking around and watching the covenant on the other side of the building. Make your way up to the second level of the building and go to the far left side of the floor (across from the stairs that led you up there) (you don’t need to be sneaky or whatever getting up here, just don’t start shooting yet). There’ll be a small window in the wall, and you’ll want to crouch down , look out the right from the window, and kill the grunt in the gun turret you’ll see. By this time the marines that spawned with you may or may not have already shot, but the space is so small, you really don’t have to worry about getting shot by the turret. Headshot the grunt with the DMR, then just work from the second floor of the building to headshot grunts as you see them. There’ll also be a gun turret to the left (the box on the right of the second floor will generally block its view, so watch for it), 2 ghosts, and a beam rifler sitting on the floating platform. Once you have a majority of the enemies down, run to the right side and grab a plasma pistol and any other weapons on the right side, as you’ll probably be pretty low on ammo, and kill the rest of them. You can grab a couple of the fuel rod guns (I’d recommend doing so) and the beam rifle if you really want it, but I don’t find that weapon to be particularly helpful in campaign.
Next will be the tank driving part of the level. Get in the tank and immediately to your right will be a floating platform. Shoot that, and move forward. Around the corner is a gun turret and another platform, and a little past that is a bunch of grunts, elites, and a couple of ghosts that come over the hill. Make sure and clear all the enemies, and keep your distance from people as you shoot, best you can.
Next is the part to destroy the AA guns. This is extremely easy as long as you still have the tank. Don’t go over the hill; make sure you can just see the gun, and fire the tank cannon at it (anywhere on the gun part will work) and it will eventually blow up. Repeat for the second AA gun. Once you have that done, make sure and move up in small incriments of space and kill banshees as they approach you. If one gets up close behind you, chances are you’ll die.
Past the banshees is a little bit of an annoying part; you’ll have to drive past a Ghost that will start shooting at you from a lower point on the ground that won’t be in your cannon’s field of fire. At this point, either get out of the tank and take it would that way, or drive past it and turn around to kill it. Either way, make sure you don’t stop at the low point on the side path, as you’ll not be able to kill him as he hangs out on the lake.
Continue along the path and you’ll see a platform around the curve, and a few ghosts on the hill. Stay on the curved path until all the ghosts have come at you, then move forward to avoid getting killed. Move across that section and you’ll come up to a spot with a hill with two pathways; one to go up, and one to go straight out. Make sure you peak the tank up over the top path to kill one of the fuel rod turrets, and then peak out again at the lower part to kill the other one (you’ll find them fairly quickly. Or, rather, they’ll find you.
There’ll be a bunch of mini-wraiths (or Revenants, whatever you like to call ’em) between you and the doorway. I’d suggest hijacking one of them so you can take it through the gate that the tank won’t fit through. Once you get around the road with the rest of the Noble gang, there’ll be about four or five elites waiting for you at the road, and your team won’t help at all until you kill these guys. So make sure you use your ammo wisely to get the kills, then work your way through the road. There’s a DMR to the left of where you first see the elites, on the bridge, along with a health pack.
Past that you’ll get to where you fought the hunters in a previous mission. There aren’t any hunters on this part; you’ll find out the elevator’s broken and have to go around. The next section is a three floor spiral-style room, but before you get there, I’d suggest taking the armor lock ability you’ll find in the room before. Use your DMR to kill as many enemies on the upper floors you can first, then kill the current ones. The reason I say that is if you kill the ones you’re on the floor with first, the ones on a higher floor will tend to rain down fire fairly quickly after you kill the ones you’re facing. Navigate around the ground floor and kill as many as you can, and use your radar to find ones on floors above you for grenade kills.
Next comes a familiar section with elites on the section that imitates the multiplayer map, Sword Base. Look to the top left of the second floor across the room to find the shield-increaser guy and shoot him before kill the seven or eight elites that are on the ground floor. (Two or three are invisible) Then go to the door, which will lead you out to the next section.
This section will be fairly long, and firefight style, kind of like the last level’s section with the Mac gun. I’d suggest activating all the turrets right off the bat (don’t go back to them, though, as they don’t do enough for you to justify risking your life to go back for them). Then head up the hill to where your team is holding position and gather up weapons, and a jet pack. Use the jetpack to fly up to the building on the left side (left as in the side of the map that has the cliff, on the side, not the one with the massive building). Watch for the banshees and wraiths that will shoot at you if you’re not paying attention.
Next part will make your life a whole lot easier, as long as you actually accomplish it. Either take a plasma pistol up to the roof to help you, or just straight up jack a banshee out of the sky, with the help of the jetpack. Wait for it to start coming straight toward you and shooting, then jetpack upward and land on top of it, immediately holding Rb (Recon controls; the action button, if you use a different layout) to hijack the banshee, and melee to knock them out of it. Use the banshee to kill the wraiths with the fuel rod gun part of it, and keep your distance from the Ghosts. For whatever reason, the Ghosts are incredibly accurate, even from long distances. If there are two of them, try to keep a cliff between you and the other one of them while you’re shooting, or the other one will come and kill you faster than you can boost out of their range.
Also be aware of grunts and jackals with overcharged plasma pistols, and the gunners of the wraiths. Any of these will easily kill you if you get within range, so just like the tank, keep your distance if possible. There will be about four total waves with elites, brutes, and hunters. Work away at them with the banshee and you should be good to go.
Once you’re done, go to the door you were defending, and activate the panel beside it. This is the end of the level; if you made it this far, congrats, you’re one step closer to beating the game on solo legendary. The first time I did this, it took me a total of about two hours because A) I hadn’t played the level on a lower difficulty yet, B) I kept getting impatient, and C) I didn’t have a guide of the guns, paths, etc. Hopefully, you guys will learn from my mistakes with this tutorial and be able to pass within about 45 minutes.
