There have been many deaths in the entertainment industry this year, and today we lost another great actor whom we have all come to love over the years.
According to Fox News, Tom Bosley, who played father Howard Cunningham on the television show “Happy Days,” died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010. Bosley died at age 83 from heart failure due to a staph infection. He was also battling lung cancer. Bosley was in other series during the years, such as “Father Dowling Mysteries,” but he will always be remembered most for his role as the loving father we all came to know and love. Bosley is truly one of the most well-known television fathers, and he will definitely be missed.
I have a lot of favorite memories of Bosley’s work on “Happy Days,” with most of them being Bosley sitting in his chair in the living room. Bosley was the character on “Happy Days” who gave you reasonable advice and honest opinions, whether or not you wanted to hear them. Bosley was like the loving and caring father we all wished we had, and he also was not afraid to tell you like it was.
I remember on “Happy Days” in one episode he was trying to tell his son about life and experiences as a man since his son was growing up. The advice and experience he was telling his son on the show was just great because it was all true and, somehow, still funny.
Bosley had a certain way he talked on “Happy Days” with a lot of irony and comedy mixed in with the truth, which is just so great. I remember Bosley was always sitting in his chair in the living room while he was reading his newspaper and giving out good advice to those who would listen. Bosley was a truly caring and loving individual both on “Happy Days” and in his own personal life.
I will also remember Bosley as a costar on the CBS series “Murder She Wrote,” and his many other television appearances over the years. Bosley was just a true actor who had class and dignity in all aspects of his life. He also will be remembered for how much contribution he has given the entertainment industry, including lending his voice for an episode of “Family Guy” recently. Bosley will always have a place in the hearts of people who grew up watching “Happy Days,” and he will be remembered as the father of everyone.
The thing I will always remember about Bosley is that he was always willing to help other people and lend his talents where they were needed. Bosley was just one of those television characters you wished you knew personally because he was so cool and calm all of the time. Bosley is going to always be remembered as Mr. Cunningham, the calm and reasonable man who gave you some of the best advice you could get.
