Tom Bosley, best known for his famous role as Mr. Cunningham on Happy Days, died on Tuesday morning, October 19, 2010. The actor’s rep told TMZ that Bosley “died of natural causes or specifically, from a brief battle with lung cancer.”
Happy Days costar Ron Howard took some time today to remember his dear friend and TV dad. In a statement released to Radar Online, Howard says, “I’m so saddened by the loss of our wonderful Tom Bosley. Remarkable on so many levels, Tom’s insight, talent, strength of character and comic timing made him a vital central figure in the Happy Days experience. A great father and husband, and a wonderful artist, Tom lead by example, and made us all laugh while he was doing it. My last conversations with Tom reflected the love of life and peace of mind that he always maintained throughout his full and rewarding life. I miss him already.”
The actor’s Happy Days TV wife Marion Ross also released a statement as she grieved the death of her costar and friend. Ross says, “He was my husband of 11 years and the father of the company in many ways. He was so smart, he could make up a new end to fix a scene on the spot. We made a perfect couple. I played piccolo to his tuba.”
Bosley’s rep also relayed that in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
