The message in God Calling today is about giving God the moments. That song, “I’ve Had My Moments” comes to mind. I’ve certainly had some wonderful moments. I discovered some time ago that those moments you give to God…spend a few minutes shopping for shoes for a kid that doesn’t have any, take a few minutes to sit with somebody who’s alone and talk with them, or just be with them, spend a few minutes putting rollers in an old lady’s hair and helping her “gussy-up” (her words); or at His prompting (Jesus), buy someone a little breakfast. Moments, they usually don’t cost us anything but our pride and our time. But, oh, in those moments we give to God, such treasures can be found. Those moments are LOADED with riches for our souls.
The moments we give away in love almost always contain our most precious memories. The reward in those moments-knowing that you made someone smile; that you made a difference in one day in a life. I’ll never forget that old lady’s face, beaming in the mirror. It makes me smile now, and it is years and years later. Oh, how I love the moments too! Secretly, I believe that they are not nearly as much for those God would have us bless with them, as they are for us to be blessed with the love and joy that result from them. God doesn’t need us to do anything for Him. Think about it: manna from heaven in the wilderness, water from a rock, clothing that didn’t wear out for forty years…No, those moments are the opportunities God creates for us to experience His love, peace and joy in action, and the love, peace and joy that result. When moments become a way of life…then it’s all good!
My prayer today: Lord, let me live, not in leaps and bounds, but in moments.
