I have previously written about development that is coming to the Hayes Valley. http://bit.ly/92lO3H I am very happy to read in the San Francisco Chronicle that the city has been able to sell two parcels of land for housing after all these years. http://bit.ly/cBLkD6 This means that there will be thousand more units of residences built. Certainly, the neighborhood’s budding commercial options will make it a wonderful place to live.
The Chronicle article talks about affordable housing in the Hayes Valley, and certainly, in a city as expensive as San Francisco, it is a primary concern for development. Having artists and more modest income residents in the Hayes Valley helps adds diversity and vibrancy to the neighborhood. However, more modest income people need affordable shopping, dining and other amenities as well. I am worried not just about the affordable housing, but other establishments that cater to lower income people. It will take affordable housing and other affordable businesses are needed to maintain Hayes Valley’s healthy development.
