My husband and I often reach for Healthy Choice frozen meals on nights when cooking a homemade meal is out of the question. We recently spotted their Turkey Marsala meal in the freezer section of our grocery store and were eager to give it a try. Unfortunately, this is one meal that just didn’t stack up against the others.
One of the big selling points for us was the fact that this frozen dinner offers seventeen grams of Protein with only two hundred and fifty calories. This is stated clearly on the front of the box and definitely makes the meal very appealing to consumers. The picture of the tasty turkey pieces in the appetizing sauce as well as the roasted potatoes and vegetables didn’t hurt either. This meal even offers a caramel apple crisp for dessert. At the low price of only two dollars and fifty cents, we were certainly looking forward to seeing how it tasted.
Preparation of Healthy Choice Turkey Marsala takes only a few minutes in the microwave. After removing the film cover from the apple crisp dessert and using a knife to cut a slit in the film over the vegetables, the carton gets microwaved on high for five and a half to six and a half minutes. My microwave tends to take a bit longer to cook items thoroughly, so I set the timer for six minutes and thirty seconds. When the timer goes off, the meal is allowed to sit for two minutes. The plastic wrap that is remaining gets removed and the turkey and sauce should be stirred. The meal is then ready to be eaten.
In addition to the low calories and high protein, this meal also contains four grams of Total Fat with one gram from Saturated Fat. There is thirty five milligrams of Cholesterol and four hundred and fifty milligrams of Sodium. There is seven hundred and thirty milligrams of Potassium and thirty six grams of Total Carbohydrate. There is also six grams of Dietary Fiber and twelve grams of Sugar. There is also a nice amount of vitamins and minerals in this frozen dinner including fifteen percent of Vitamin A, four percent of Calcium, forty percent of Vitamin C and thirty five percent of Folic Acid. The entire list of vitamin content is printed on the side of the box and it is indeed very impressive.
Unfortunately, the low calories and healthy nutrition of this meal would not entice me to purchase this product again. While the overall taste was not unpleasant, it was simply not very appealing. The portion was very small, even for a frozen dinner. The turkey and Marsala sauce was just average and the potatoes and vegetables rank about the same. The apple crisp dessert was the most enjoyable part of the meal. Overall, I am a very big fan of Healthy Choice frozen meals, this one just wasn’t as filling or tasty as many others I have eaten. I would give this frozen meal only two and a half out of five stars.
