Welcome back Hellcats fans. This episode gave us Ashley Tisdale asserting herself with her family and Dan, a crazy-on-illegal-drugs Alice and a too-long song by Marti.
Dan and Savannah are having a sober daytime date and because they realize they look so cute together they start kissing, but get interrupted by Sav’s parents. Oops, hi mom and dad this is my umm boyfriend Dan. Dan thinks: “huh moving too fast here” but no one sees his face because dad invites them over for dinner sometime. S is ecstatic and tells Dan she hasn’t had dinner with her family in over a year. Dan comes clean and tells her he’s not exclusive and Savannah says “oh yeah sure me neither…” but is a virgin so yeah duh she’s not seeing other boys.
At her parents house the dinner seems to go well but then in the kitchen mom tells S she can’t see Dan because he’s not serious about her. They get into a fight even though mom is actually right. So Savannah stands up to her and says she’s going to do what she wants even if that means not what her mom wants. Got it mom? Dan let’s go. Dan on the way out the door: “umm thanks for dinner.”
Later on Dan is at Marti’s mom’s bar with a brunette ditz who’s nattering on about her phone. Dan realizes that he really likes Savannah because she’s much deeper than this ditz so he leaves the bar and talks to S at the Hellcats house. Savannah tells him she wants to be exclusive and then breaks it off with him. Dan says he wants to be exclusive with her but she has to be patient with him because he’s never tried monogamy before because he didn’t have any good role models. So that means they’re exclusive until he accidentally sleeps with someone else – but he did warn her.
Meanwhile Alice is sneaking around secretly video taping the Memphis Christian (Savannah’s first year alma mater) cheer squad’s practice. She gets caught but makes up some crazy lie and takes the tape back to the Hellcats. Vanessa catches the squad goofing off here and tells them they need to practice – hello people your scholarships are on the line.
But Alice is still on the dope and Lewis catches her again. Since it’s so easy for Lewis to keep catching her why hasn’t any one else seen her getting high. Anyway she tells him that she’ll flush the pills if he helps her “fly,” something she couldn’t do with her hurt wrist. She’s also trying to get back into Lewis’ pants because it also seems like the dope is making her super aggressive and she doesn’t want Lewis to get with Marti. They of course have sex but Lewis regrets it and tells Alice that it was a mistake and it won’t happen again. Alice gets super pissed and throws a bottle at his head. Vanessa sees this because they are right in front of her office. Wise Vanessa demands that Alice take a drug test but A refuses. V tells her she’s seen it all before when she was a cheerleader and that pursuing a guy isn’t a good tactic.
Marti says no to Lewis when he asks her to a Jazz Fest, claiming she’s too busy with law school. Maybe this is why he later got it on with Alice. Then Marti and mom Wanda get into a fight over Marti’s ideas for helping Wanda with her open mic night. Wanda also tells Marti to just go out with Lewis because otherwise she will. Marti doesn’t think her mom can do anything by herself so still tries to help her, but an unknown housemate tells Marti to just let Wanda try to do it herself. Good advice because the open mic is a success and Wanda gets promoted to manager. Marti is so proud. Alice and her football player drug supplier are also at the bar and it looks like the sole intention is to make Lewis jealous. Marti finally tells Lewis he’ll go out with him but he lies and says he’s tired. But then decides to tell Marti the truth about Alice. Marti is relieved that he was so honest with her.
Then it’s Marti’s turn at the open mic and she sings her entire song. This reminds us of our days in our video production class in college when we would put in a music video bit when we didn’t have enough other material to stretch out the video. Anyway the song was way too long and it looked like Dan, Savannah, Lewis and even Wanda thought so too.
Next episode: “The Prisoner’s Song” Dan directs the Hellcats video but could put Savannah’s captainship in jeopardy. Marti gets into her law student role. Red and Dr. BF get into a fight over Vanessa.
