We’ve all been there before. The man you love turns out to be the boy with the bad habits. The knight in shining armor turns out to be a fraud in tin foil. The prince charming turns out to be more of a court jester. When this comes around, many of us will turn to our friends. As the friend, what exactly do you do? There are many things that you can do to help your friend lose the jerk and move on.
This girl just lost her lover, her best friend, and her main person. They need to know that there’s more to the world than that! Time for you to step in and be her person. Shoot off a random text, give an extra phone call, maybe even suggest an outing. Whatever you have to do to show her that you are there, and you love her. Direct her toward other friends to for when you don’t have the time. Give her photos of you, her and your other friends having fun. Let her know there’s more to the world than just that guy.
Bring junk food
Yeah, okay, we all need to eat better and fight obesity. But this girl just had her heart broken! Time to break out the Chunky Monkey, rainbow chip frosting and brownies! Whatever her pleasure is, provide it for her. Junk food heals what men wound!
Remind her of the future
Maybe it’s not quite time for match.com, but that doesn’t mean you can’t remind her there’s more out there. Whether it’s a career, an education, a passion or a charitable cause, remind this girl that there’s more to life! Go to a craft show together and reignite old hobbies. Help her fix up that resume and get out of a job rut. Suggest you take a class together, whether it’s yoga, excel or cooking. Anything to show her there’s a future out there for her.
Time to Dance!
On Grey’s Anatomy, whenever the girls are really down, they “Dance it out!” Not a bad way to feel better! Burn a cd of some favorite songs and jump up to move! Dancing will get you both some good exercise, and it will just generally make you feel better! It’s time for some fun!
Break-ups aren’t easy, anyone who’s been through one can tell you that. But it can be a whole lot easier with a good friend or two by your side.
