Fabric rosettes are a great way to add style to a boring lampshade. These fun and very easy to create rosette embellished lampshades are perfect for a female bedroom or other feminine living space. Or, consider this a great decorative option for a Shabby Chic style room.
For this project, you will need (per lampshade):
– One paper lampshade
– Floral patterned or pastel colored scrapbook paper
– Craft knife
– Self healing mat
– Krylon Spray Adhesive
– Half inch wide satin ribbon
– Fabric rosettes
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Coordinating lamp
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Before starting, cover the area you will be crafting your rosette embellished lampshade at with sheets of old newspaper or a fairly large drop cloth. Place the paper lampshade flat on the work area. Determine how much floral patterned or pastel colored scrapbook paper is needed to cover the entire lampshade. (If you must have seams, make sure they are horizontally in the middle of the lampshade as they will be covered up later on in the crafting process.)
Place the scrapbook paper flat on the self healing mat. Using a ruler and a pencil, mark the dimensions needed to cover up the lampshade. Carefully cut out this piece or these pieces with a craft knife. Spray the back of each paper piece with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the decorative paper to the side of the paper lampshade. Smooth the paper pieces with your fingers to prevent any wrinkling or bubbling.
Cut one length of half inch wide satin ribbon long enough to wrap around the lampshade horizontally at mid point. Spray the back of the ribbon with Krylon Spray Adhesive and attach it to the lampshade (If you have a horizontal seam, this area should be placed under the ribbon.) Dry completely.
Heat up the hot glue gun. Apply a dab of glue to the back of one floral rosette. Adhere the rosette to the ribbon piece on the decorated lampshade. Continue to apply as many rosettes to the lampshade as desired. Let the glue cool completely. Install the rosette embellished lampshade onto a coordinating lamp, as desired.
TIP: Fabric rosettes are incredibly easy to find pre-made or to create yourself. Look for them at flea markets and craft shops. Or, do a web search for a tutorial to create them yourself using scrap fabric and/or ribbon.
