Homecoming at Brookville High School-Special Times, Special Friends, Special Memoribilia!

by bogbit

Homecoming is a very special time for any age. As this year went by, I experienced my first homecoming event/game for elementary aged children. The special atmosphere of attending this event was heartfelt and endearing. The homecoming event was held at Brookville High School stadium, where the Timberlake Lions had their homecoming game. I am new to the area, but my mother graduated high school from Brookville, so it made it extra special. My neighbor is actually a cheerleading coach for the team, The Lions. Her enthusiasm got me psyched to go the game and see what this little team of ferocious Lions had to offer!

The team is made up of younger children, from the ages of 7 and 8 year olds. During the high school football season the team practices and has games just as the regular high school/middle school football teams. The practice and dedication is a special feeling that the Lions have that makes the team and fans come alive, especially on homecoming day! Though it may have not been the most crowded football stadium, it still was a lively atmosphere with lots of laughs and fun times.

The Lions also have their own cheerleading squad, in which my neighbor wanted to do something special for them since she is their coach. She came over and saw some of my artwork and put me to work, literally. For the homecoming game I made special Lion Cheerleader Barbies dressed in handmade uniforms that look just like their uniforms. At first I did not know if they would really catch on or be a hit. I spoke to soon, within the first 20 minutes the dolls were gone. We decided that half of the proceeds were going to go to new pom-poms for next years season. I really felt that I was helping do something for a team of special little cheerleaders. They loved the dolls, and will always have the memorabilia for their later years.

The homecoming princess, Kaylee was crowned by my neighbor, Tabitha with a special tiara and sash. This moment was very important and heart felt both for the coach and Kaylee. Kaylee was awarded the crown because she was a dedicated cheerleader and had a great teamwork attitude that all teams need. Many congrats to Kaylee! The field was packed with adoring fan and this was her shining moment!

Not only was the homecoming a first time experience for me, it made me feel as though I have something to look forward to for next year in my community. Being a part of a team is always a great way of showing your passion for your community. Also I loved the idea that I got to help out with fundraiser and the cheerleaders were happy with their dolls. Hopefully in the years to come, there will be more special memories for the Lions at the Brookville Stadium! I know I definitely heard them roar with maroon and gold pride!
