I found a very unique gift a few years back that I gave my father. The older we get it is harder to give a different present beside a tie or a shirt to our fathers. About two years ago, I collected all the pictures I could find on my fathers side of the family. Even asked his relatives to e-mail me any pictures they had, so I would be able to incorporate them into my project.
After I got all the pictures i could, next was to sort through them from when he was young up to now. I then scanned the pictures I had onto my computer. I then found a program I could use that would help me with my project. The project was a slide show of his family. It included his siblings, mother father and relatives from his side of the family, such as nieces, nephews and yes, my mother, sister and myself. Also included were our animals we had through the years.
After all the images are on the computer, then you use a slide show program of your choice and put the pictures on in order from old to new. Next step is to go through your music files, you add music to the show. This takes awhile because you need to pick out music that is meaningful to the pictures you are using. I used songs that were touching and able to tell a story with the pictures used.
Next is to make sure you have enough music picked out that will last through the pictures. The more pictures you have, the more music you need. Be sure to save the project on your computer, so as not to lose it. Next thing to do is incorporate the pictures and music together. be sure to preview the project first before you burn it on to a DVD. This way if you need to move pictures around or move the music you can.
Before burning the DVD, make a title for your slide show. Mine was named for my father’s family. If you want credits at the end, put them on also. It can be as simple as with love. Then select a DVD, insert it in your computers burner and burn your slide show project.
I made a few of those that year to give as gifts to other family members, and it really touched their hearts. Also it brings back a lot of memories to the family. I found that even through it was a homemade gift, that gift meant more that a store bought one.It took me a few months to work on it, but the project turned out well and was very
much appreciated. Since then i have made slide shows for other people for different occasions, and to think it all started with a beautiful homemade Christmas gift for my father.
