This poem is about my honeymoon and is of the moment where my husband and I had a toast to our marriage, while standing on our balcony that was facing the beautiful and famous castle at Walt Disney World.
The sleek slender glasses rest
Gently against the
Chipped white railing
That divides us from
His cratered hands of gentle roughness
Tip lightly over the glass
As the champagne tingles
Slide shyly from the olive bottle
Fizzing sizzles and bubbles
That float upward in celebration.
The air is crisp yet soft
And my skin is tickled by
The breeze and his body beside mine.
I can feel his hair rise from his arm
And brisk silently against my own.
My body begins to sizzle and tingle
Like the champagne.
The blue castle lights twinkle
And a song of magic and Mickey Mouse
Is heard against the whispers
Of young children out past their bedtime
Just this once. Suddenly the glass in my hand
Makes its presence
The children are paused
The sparkles have dimmed
And it feels as though a bubble of champagne
Has floated upward and entrapped the two of us.
Our glasses meet
And chime togetherHis voice echoes in
And my eyes become hypnotized by
His slow, soft lipsAs he says, “Here’s to us!”
