SPOILER ALERT: The following is a full summary, recap and even fan review of House MD season 7 episode 5, “Unplanned Parenthood”. Naturally this makes the following one big spoiler.
House MD season 7, episode 5, “Unplanned parenthood” opens with a woman in labor being filmed by her older daughter. She gives birth to a baby girl who is having breathing problems caused by a failing liver. The episode then goes to the opening credits.
After House MD season 7 episode 5’s credits finish the episode re-opens to House presenting the sick baby case to the team. Cuddy interrupts and steals House away to her office. She asks him to baby sit her 2 year old daughter Rachael she adopted in an earlier season. She also reminds House he must hire a new female doctor to replace 13. He agrees on both counts after attempting to barter in some sex.
House then goes to watch Rachael. The episode cuts to him watching TV and eating popcorn while assuring Cuddy on the phone her daughter is fine. After he hangs up he goes to get a drink and Rachael wakes up. House then calls Wilson. Wilson comes and House attempts to leave him to baby sit. Wilson follows him outside and won’t let him leave. By time they settle on the fact that they’ll both stay and go inside Cuddy’s daughter has poured popcorn everywhere and has a quarter in her mouth. After a coin count House and Wilson found she has eaten a dime.
Back at the hospital the team finds that the sick baby has an issue in her liver. Foreman also introduces House to his new hire, which House then instantly fires to deflate Foreman’s ego. He then tells Taub to find a new team member. The team does the surgery on the baby and finds they were wrong. During their work Taub recruits the help of a pediatrician named Chan he is considering for the open position on the team. He however grows increasing paranoid as he tries to beat House at his game after seeing what happened with Foreman. The team thinks they know what is wrong and treat without House’s okay as he’s not answering his phone. The baby seemingly gets better.
Back at Cuddy’s house she returns home just as Wilson sneaks out a window and demands House tell Cuddy about the dime. He doesn’t. Instead he talks Cuddy into letting him stay the night so he can watch for signs of a blockage from the dime. He even changes diapers all night. In the morning Taub calls to update House finally finding him at Cuddy’s House tells them their diagnosis was wrong and the baby will crash again. Naturally House is right and the baby begins bleeding in the mother’s arms while she is arguing with her first daughter who is jealous of the new baby.
House and Wilson sneak Rachael into the hospital to do an ultrasound to look for the dime. Taub interrupts them to tell House that the baby did indeed get sick again. House hides that he has Rachael while telling Taub to do a direct blood transfusion from the mom. While talking Chan the possible new team member talks with House. House “tests” her and asks her what she would do about a 2 year old that had swallowed a dime. She says to give her laxative and then go in manually to remove it if it has not come out on its own in 22 hours. House and Wilson then meet in the men’s bathroom and give Cuddy’s daughter a laxative. House steals Wilson’s radioactive alter badge and makes it appear as if there is a radioactive risk in the hospital. As a result Cuddy has to work late and asks House to baby sit again just as he planned.
Back with the sick baby the mother’s blood somehow makes the baby instantly better. While doing tests to find out why the team discovers both baby and mom have skin cancer and for some reason the mother has cancer fighting antibodies in her blood which are curing the baby. The mom’s older daughter then apologizes for being jealous. The team discovers the mom actually has lung cancer as well and that’s why her body is making antibodies. They tell her she needs to have surgery but she refuses because if she continues to give the baby blood for 9 days they’ll both be okay. If she has the surgery she won’t have the antibodies anymore and the baby will need chemotherapy, but the side effects from the cancer could kill her.
House then leaves the hospital with the supplies to remove the dime from Cuddy’s daughter because Wilson calls telling him she still hasn’t passed it. He arrives with Chinese food which leads the two to realize that there was never a dime to begin with.
House MD episode 5 then cuts back to the hospital where the mom’s older daughter goes to bring her dinner and finds her mother dead. Foreman uses her blood to finish treating the baby, who lives. The last we see of the sick baby from House MD season 7, episode 5 she is being held by her sister who tells her never to forget her mother.
The episode closes as House and Cuddy lay in bed. Rachael awakes needing a diaper change and House won’t change it this time. Cuddy goes to and yells at house, “I found a dime”.
Fan review of House MD season 7, episode 5, “Unplanned Parenthood”:
This is the House MD we all have come to love. This week’s episode had a truly interesting case and managed to have Cuddy and House in a relationship without things being boring and repetitive. I was happy to see a decent episode as the first disappointing four episodes of House MD season 7 had me worried that this season may be House’s last.
