A viewing of the November 8 episode of “How I Met Your Mother” titled “Natural History”, was pretty much exactly what viewers have come to expect from the hit CBS show. The gang scored tickets to a Goliath National Bank event held at the Museum of Natural History, thanks to Marshall, Ted, and Barney being key members of the corporation. Of course, all of the characters had separate experiences at the black tie event with several different and hilarious results.
Marshall and Lily experienced a bit of revelation on responsibility and growing up, with Marshall revealing that he wants to stay at GNB in order to take care of Lily and their family. Through a few difficult exchanges, Lily eventually comes to agree to work things out. Of course, we learn in the end that Marshall does not last forever at GNB.
Ted runs into Zoe, a very hot looking Zoe in her little black dress, only to learn that her husband, a gentleman preferred to be known as “The Captain” is paying for the entire event. This is quite a turn of events for the Ted & Zoe dynamic, as the lady he knows as a staunch activist is also married to corporate fat cat with an ego the size of his yacht. After a few light exchanges, Zoe breaks into tears about her husband tricking Ted in trashing GNB on a tape recorder. However, once she overhears Ted defend her activism to her husband, the two share a delightful moment on the dance floor, which nearly resulted in a kiss. The chemistry between the two seems very real, could this be the mother we have been waiting for?
Meanwhile the unstoppable pair of Robin and Barney embark on a touch the exhibits contest, and inevitably landing the two of them in the security office. Once there Robin learns that Barney’s outlandish claims of museum mayhem turned out to be real, which resulted in the line of night “I am the master, Leroy,” which is a great reference to Berry Gordy’s the Last Dragon. However, it turns out that what he thought was his Uncle marked off the Father box on the security report, which leads Barney down the path of questioning his paternity.
All things considered, “Natural History” played to the strengths of all the characters. Robin and Barney continue to have great chemistry, and the relationship between Ted and Zoe is definitely heating up. Only time will tell what is in store for both couples, but no doubt things look pretty good on all levels. With the glaring exception of course that Zoe is married. Still, the strength of HIMYM is locked into the performances of all the leads hitting their strides, and they clearly have a lot to offer this season.
