Everyone thinks they know how to properly address an envelope or package. With the holiday season coming up and Christmas presents to be shipping, I want to make sure everyone knows how to properly address their packages or letters.
The first step is to put the letter into your envelope and lick the back, a little trick I use is tape the back as well, this makes sure if the letter gets wet the back will stay sealed.
Not the upper right and left hand corners will stay blank the entire time, write nothing in these areas.
The upper right corner of your envelope is reserved for one stamp, if you are mailing a letter. More if you have a bigger package.
The upper left corner is used for the return address, I suggest printing off pre-printed stickers because they are easier to read off of the computer, and stick better to your envelope.
The following format is used when writing your return address:
Your City, State and Zip Code
Make sure each of these is legible and correct
The comma is in the correct spot.
Now for the address of who you are sending the letter to. It goes in the middle of your envelope, and is much larger than your return address.
Their City, State, and Zip Code
Keep in mind a legible shipment address is more important than a return address, write it in pen NEVER PENCIL.
If you are shipping a package the same process is used, unless you are sticking with shipping labels. Then you use the above format for the “To” and “From” areas on the sticker. Be sure to cover the sticker with packaging tape because this will prevent it from coming off when it is being shipped.
Hopefully with this article you will be able to prevent your packages from being returned to sender or lost in the hectic Christmas season.
