There is nothing worse than paying more for something than you need to. Same concept applies to medical bills. These days, medical bills are enormous if you don’t have insurance. With insurance, they aren’t that cheap anyway. There is no way to get around paying your bill, but there are ways to pay the exact amount and not more. Paying more on small bills will slowly add up over time making you lose a lot of money. Here are some ways you can avoid that problem.
Always Ask For a Copy Before Leaving the Facility
I can’t stress this enough. Right when you make your co-payment, ask for a receipt and a copy because this ensures that they can’t change the bill later. Without a receipt in your hands, you can’t prove anything to them if a bill comes in the mail a few days later asking for more money. With a receipt, you can show them that you have already paid and that you don’t owe them any more money. I have been through this countless times. What happens is that I pay the facility my co-payment and then ask for the receipt. Then a few days later I get a letter in a mail asking the same amount from me again. They somehow have no record of me paying the bill. So with the receipt I show them that I have paid and that’s it. No more money is taken from me.
Understand Your Insurance Plan
You must know exactly what type of insurance you have. You have to know what your co-pay will be and you must know the fees regarding the medical attention that you will be receiving. Understanding your insurance plan will make it so you know exactly what you have to pay and that the facility cannot say that you have to pay more because of your insurance. Your insurance plan is what is helping you pay off the bill and knowing that is your key to not paying more than you have to.
These are some great tips on how to avoid paying more on your medical bills. Following these guidelines will ensure that you will not have to pay insane amounts of money when getting medical treatment and that you will be covered. Never pay more than you have to for anything, especially medical treatment.
