The key to being an awesome parent doesn’t fit neatly into any category. It doesn’t matter if a parent is cool or nerdy, serious or silly, or out-going or introverted. No one personality type or style is going to guarantee an awesome parent status. What does matter in being awesome is a parent’s behavior and action towards their child. To be an awesome parent, follow these steps.
Pay Attention to Your Child
In today’s world, technology takes up a lot of a parent’s attention. Texts and calls need to be made on cell phones, e-mail and Facebook need to be checked on computers, music needs to be listened to on iPods, and televisions need watched. The one thing in a parent’s life that really needs that attention, however, is their child. There is no need to give up technology, just put it away sometimes! A parent needs to be sure their child receives a large chunk of their available attention. When a parent steps away from their technology to focus on their child, it is a big step towards becoming an awesome parent.
Spend Time with Your Child
Parents and children spend a lot of time together. A lot of this time is spent shuffling to and from places in the car and their presences both being inside the same dwelling at the same time. A parent and child spending time together should include engaging in the same activity together. These activities can be as simple as preparing supper and reading a book together. A parent should converse with their child, share their emotions, and laugh. Laughing is especially important! During time spent with your child, try to have fun. Fun will lead to lots more time spent between parents and children and aid a parent in their quest for awesomeness!
Love Your Child
Being a parent isn’t always easy or fun. Children can be overwhelming, demanding, and naughty. Even when dealing with the negative aspects of parenting, a parent must always strive to express love to their child. Thankfully, a large portion of parenting is wonderful and expressing love is very easy. Awesome parents put immense effort in to making sure their children are aware of how much they love them! Have you told your child you love them today? If not, tell them right now. If you have, tell them again.
Any parent can be amazing, and every child deserves awesome parents. A parent may not be the coolest to anyone else, but in a child’s eyes, when these simple steps are utilized, their parent will be the best. These steps are incredibly easy and worth so much more than the tiny amount of effort needed to implement them. Don’t you want to be an awesome parent?
