Marketing products to consumers without the use of a middle man is called Direct Selling. There are many companies that provide products for sell by the representatives that partner with them. Most of these companies will provide their representatives with starter kits at little to no cost.
Each year thousands of people sign up with direct selling firms in hopes of making some cash. Initially, they sell items to relatives and friends, but when those options have been exhausted they wonder where to go next, draw a blank, and then throw in the towel.
The sales profession is one that must be learned just like any other. To be successful, one must first learn the basic techniques, and then how to apply the techniques that they have learned. This will take time, but rest assured that direct selling really can offer extra income or even career possibilities.
The benefits of direct selling are fairly obvious. You get to be your own boss. You choose when to work and for how long. You are the owner of your business. Be aware that being your own boss requires discipline. Some people do better working for others. If you suspect that you are one of these people, then direct selling is not for you.
Ready to jump in and start selling? The following tips will help insure your success.
Set goals. Having a clear vision of what you hope to accomplish will put you one step closer to getting it. Record your goal on paper, and set a deadline to reach it. Work each and every day toward reaching your goal.
Make Lists. Before you turn in for the evening, jot down a list of all the things you want to accomplish the next day. Having an organized plan for each day is a must. Mark off items as you complete them. You will be amazed at how much gets done when you are working from a list.
Have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is a type of energy that is all it’s own. This energy goes hand in hand with people who are achievers.
Be proactive. Business will not come to you. You have to go to it. Don’t be afraid to talk to anyone and everyone about your business. This way, you will obtain referrals which then converts to sales.
Don’t fear rejection. Rejection is part of the business, but keep in mind that it is not personal, and that the law of averages comes into play here. For each “no”, you come one step closer to a “yes”. Also keep in mind that not every “no” is really a “no”. Often it is just a stall, and in this case simply provide the client with more information and leave them be so that they do not feel pressured, and may still possibly want to do business with you after they’ve had time to think it over.
Have a office. Even when working from home it is imperative that you have a place set aside for working. This will allow you to work efficiently and helps keep you organized.
Lastly, learn money handling. Unlike company jobs where paychecks come in on a scheduled basis, direct sales representatives deal with money daily. It is imperative that you stay on top of your dollars and cents.
These strategies, a willingness to work, and a good product are all it takes to become successful with direct selling and make the dream of being your own boss finally come true.
