If you are a homeschooling parent, you probably work very hard at creating field trips for your kids. The problem that many families are experiencing is that they just don’t have the money for as many trips as they would like. With a little bit of advance planning and a few pointers you should have no problem affording plenty of trips during your school year.
The first tip is to start setting aside a few dollars out of your weekly pay. If you work with a monthly paycheck then it may prove beneficial to come up with a monthly amount. It may also be a good idea to set up a separate account to save this money
Time to make a few calls
If there are places in particular that you would like to visit why not give these places a call. See if they have special homeschool days. There are plenty of museums that have homeschool days where you will receive a nice discount. Some places may even give you a discount just for having a large group. Be sure to ask how large your group has to be for the discount.
Don’t follow the website
Some museums and children’s places usually have websites with information on them. Although these websites can have the basic information I have found it best to call a location to verify the information you just read is accurate. Most of these locations will usually change their information and events based on the time of year and any special events that they may have.
Look for cheaper days
Some days during the week at these locations can sometimes be cheaper. For example by visiting earlier in the week and in the morning you may be able to save yourself a nice amount of money. Remember it really is all about finding the right deals.
Purchase a coupon book
Taking the time to purchase a coupon book is really a good idea. Many local coupon books offer discounts to locations such as museums, and amusement parks. You can always do an online search for the upcoming 2010-2011 entertainment coupon book. These books are usually very affordable and worth the few extra dollars that you will end up spending on the coupon book. By taking the time to do this you will be saving yourself a lot of money, while your kids are having fun.
