If you are using the ExpressionEngine software to create your website, you have the option of censoring words. This is a good thing if you do not want all kinds of nasty words to be allowed on your site. In this guide, I am going to show you how to censor words on your site in ExpressionEngine.
Opening Your Word Censor Page in ExpressionEngine
We will need to begin with opening the word censor page in ExpressionEngine. To do this, you can login as the admin. Once you are in the Control Panel, you will need to click the Admin tab. That will open the System Administrator page. On this page, you will need to click the System Preferences link in the box on the left. In the middle of the page, you will see a long list of links. Near the bottom of the list, you will see the Word Censor link. Click that link and you will be redirected to the page where you can censor the words on your site.
Setting Up Your Word Censoring Options in ExpressionEngine
Now that you are on the word censor page, you can begin setting up your options. It is completely up to you which words to censor and what to replace them with. Let’s take a look at the options on this page.
Enable Word Censoring – To turn the word censoring on, you will need to click the Yes option in this field.
Censoring Replacement Word – When a word is censored, you have the option of what to put in the place of the word. In this field, you can type what you want the censored word to be replaced with. You can use symbols, numbers, or anything you want.
Censored Words – This is where you will need to list all of the words you want to censor. Separate each word with a comma. You can enter as many words as you want in this field.
When you have entered what you want in these fields, you can click the Update button at the bottom of your page. That will save the word censor options, and the words on the site will be censored.
