Computer multimedia would not be complete without computer speakers. It’s not an option not to have one especially if you listen to music, watch movies and play games. There are lots of computer speaker systems to choose from. There are standard 2-piece speakers out there that are really cheap and they would just cost you around $3 or so. There are also very powerful branded speaker systems that cost hundreds of dollars and some may even reach thousands. But which would you choose if you’re buying one for your computer? It’s really up to you but let me share some things that you may want to consider first before purchasing one.
The first thing you should consider is what type of speakers do you want? Do you want something that has a good bass? A lot of 2.1 (2 satellite speakers and a woofer) speaker systems can do this task. Also consider what you’re going to use it for. If you plan to just listen on your own in a small room, 2.1 speakers systems will suffice. However, if you have a big monitor and you have a spacey room and plan to put in a home theater audio system, a huge 5.1 or better sound system would be needed. You should also consider how you will set it up in your room. Where will you place the satellites and the woofer? Does your room have enough space to take advantage of that surround sound?
Choosing the brand of the speakers is not that daunting of a task. There are several brand names, in my experience, that has good quality computer speaker systems. They are Altec Lansing, Creative, Logitech and even Bose. Your experience may be different from each brand but these are just among the most common brand names that you may want to consider.
I guess the most important thing to consider is your budget. Computer speakers systems usually do not cost that much especially if you buy those generic speakers. These only cost roughly $3 to 5$ and is good for easy listening. If you want something better then there are 2.1 speaker systems with woofers that are more than enough to liven up your video games and your movies. These usually cost around $30 or so. High-end speaker systems may cost you well over $100 but they are usually worth it especially if you like audio more than video.
As with any other purchase, especially if it is something that you want and not something you need, regret is quite common especially if you bought something that isn’t worth it. You’ll probably end up aiming for a better speaker. If you think that you should have just kept your old speaker system, then you probably wasted your money. I recently upgraded my computer sound system and it was worth it. My old 2.1 speaker system was more than 5 years old and it’s about time to buy something better and more powerful. I was not disappointed. It’s powerful enough to fill the room with good quality sound and if I choose to, I can wake up my neighbors with it.
