If you would like to change the size of the icons in your start menu, this guide will also help you. In this guide, I will walk you through the steps of customizing your start menu in Windows XP. To customize your start menu, you will first have to open your properties panel for the start menu. If you do not know how to do that, follow the steps below.
Opening Your Start Menu Properties Panel in Windows XP
We will begin with opening your properties panel for the Start Menu. This is where you will do all of your customizing. To do this, right click on the start menu button at the bottom of your screen. Do not open the start menu, right click on it. When you right click, you will see a menu open. In that menu, find the Properties option and click it. The properties panel for the start menu will then open. Make sure the Start Menu tab is clicked at the top of your panel. Normally when you open the properties panel, the Start Menu will not be clicked. So, you will need to click the tab to go to the start menu options.
Customizing Your Start Menu in Windows XP
To start out with, you can select the type of start menu you want to use. You can use the Windows XP start menu, or you can use the classic style, which is the old style start menu. In the properties panel, you will see the two menus and what they look like. Click the button next to the start menu you want to use.
Now you can customize it even further. Click the Customize button in the properties panel to continue on with the customizing of your start menu. In the top part of the customize box, you will have the option of changing the size of the icons in the start menu. Decide what size you want to use and make your selection by clicking the button beside that size.
Next, you can change the number of programs in the start menu. By default, the number of programs is set to 6. You can change this number by using the arrows beside the number box. You can also delete the number in the box and type your own to do it quicker.
The next section in this panel is letting you decide what you want to show in the start menu. Go through these options and change it to what you want. When you are finished with these settings, click the OK button to close the box. You will now be returned to the other box. Click OK on the box and everything will be saved and updated. Any time you want to make changes, you will need to come back to this panel.
