Becoming a dorm room barber is easy and very rewarding. Every college student will have to be well groomed at some point. I love learning how to do things for myself, especially when it saves my household money. I went off to Job Corps as a teenager. One night I walked into the dorm bathroom and saw a fellow student trimming his own hair with hair clippers, I was amazed.
This student quickly became the dorm barber, and we had to pay him for his services. When I left Job Corps, the first thing I added to my grooming arsenal was a pair of hair clippers. I started cutting my own hair and soon realized how simple and easy it is. I made zero mistakes from the first cut and I was saving money by giving myself hair cuts in between going to my favorite barber. Soon, I was cutting my friends hair for a couple of dollars a head.
You can buy a pair of clippers for about twenty five dollars, complete with trimming guards for mistake proof cuts. An edger will cost about double that, but you can get by with your clippers in the beginning. If you can draw stick figures you can edge hair. Even if you just cut your own hair for a while, your clippers will pay for themselves in one haircut these days. You will have to use a good sized hand mirror to cut and edge the back of your own hair.
Just be patient, it’s easy. To market yourself all you have to do is what my fellow classmate did, be seen cutting your own hair and business will come to you. You can also cut one or two of your close friend’s hair for free and let them be your walking billboards. If you offer reasonable prices you will have more business than you can handle. As dorm barber you can cut hair according to your own schedule. Cutting any type or length hair is easy. Young ladies, you can cut hair also, a friend of mines’ sister used to edge his hair, and she used a disposable razor. Don’t be afraid to try this, it “will” save and make you extra income. Happy cutting.
