Many of us live a very fast paced life and don’t have time to prepare meals at home and tend to eat out. This tends to change our health over time. And even if you don’t eat out that often one meal can make you feel very different. The problem with eating out is you do not see all the additives that are put into the food that we don’t need; like sugar or salt. Many people consume too much sodium and over time you can develop hypertension. I watched this happen to a few family members and this was not pretty. There have been many studies done by doctors and volunteers to show what happens after eating fast food and eating out over time can do. I think the best way to change and eat a healthy diet is try to eliminate eating out although. The following are some of the steps I have taken to eat a better and healthier diet.
First I started watching the sugar in all items I was consuming from cereal bars, to vitamin water and soda. For example there is a huge difference between vitamin water zero and vitamin water. Vitamin water zero has less than a gram of sugar compared to almost twelve grams in the regular vitamin water. If you consume too much sugar eventually you will gain weight because with age our metabolisms slow down and it is harder to burn off. I have cut down sweets to one sweet treat a week. That would include ice cream, candy including chocolate , pop, or doughnuts. That is a big change for some people and for myself it was very hard because you will crave the sugar because you are used to having it. Instead reach for fresh fruit. Strawberries, oranges, apples, bananas, other berries, and grapes as your sugar snack. There is natural sugar in fruit and eating it whole in it’s original form is best. Some people like smoothies but changing the composition of the fruit you break down the vitamins and nutrients you are consuming. Drinking plenty of water and getting some exercise like a 30 minute walk in per day will help your diet and maintaining a healthy weight. Also, a factor that many people don’t realize that can cause over weight issues is not getting a good night sleep every night. Most people need 8 or 9 uninterrupted hours of sleep every night. If you don’t get it you can begin to have health problems down the road. If you have sleep issues and can not resolve them yourself you should consult a doctor.
