Colorado has similar policies as other states for insurance agents. The state requires a Colorado insurance license to sell policies to individuals and businesses. To become a Colorado insurance agent, most applicants need to attend a Colorado insurance course. They then need to take a Colorado insurance exam to get an insurance license.

Select a course by contacting individual providers. Keep the completion certificate to present for your test.
Download Pearson VUE’s “Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook.” Pearson is the exam administrator for the Colorado insurance exams. Note that you can find a different handbook at the link in Step 1 if you are seeking to become a Colorado bail-bond agent.
Use the handbook to review your testing requirements. As of 2010, the fee is $73 for the insurance tests. There is a test for 10 different Colorado insurance licenses.

Use Pearson’s exam content outlines to review for the test. Of course, you should also keep all the books and other reference materials from your insurance course if you were required to attend a course. The handbook also has a resource for additional study manuals for Colorado insurance exams.
Register for your insurance exam. You may use forms or contact information in the bulletin to register for all Colorado insurance agent licensing exams.
Take your test. If you pass, you will find out immediately after the test. If not, you can follow the failing score report instructions to retest.
Apply for your license online at Sircon.com/colorado. This is an electronic application process for a Colorado insurance license. Once you receive your license electronically, you can then get insurance companies to register you as a Colorado insurance agent for sales of the company’s insurance policies.
