Fill out a FASFA application. Go to the FASFA.gov website and fill out the entire application. Make sure everything is accurate. You’ll need your parents to fill out the income version unless you are an independent adult that files taxes separately.
Apply for The Pell Grant. This grant is given to those that are considered underprivileged for post-secondary education. To qualify you must submit an application at ED.gov. Typically, if you were given partial or full food assistance at your last school then you will qualify.
Apply for The Academic Competitiveness Grant. This grant is typically given to people who already are receiving the Pell Grant. For a list of both academic and financial requirements and to apply, go to studentaid.ed.gov.
If you’re an African-American you can apply for The United Negro College fund. The UNCF was established in 1944 and has a massive reputation as the worlds largest funder for education among African-Americans. This Grant might not pay for your entire education but it will be a big help, especially if you’re already receiving the Pell Grant. You can apply at UNCF.org.
Apply for a grant at The Asian American Journalists Association. If you’re an Asian American, you might qualify for a grant from this organization. For more information and to apply go to AAJA.org.
Apply at The Hispanic Scholarship Fund Institute. This grant is targeted at Latinos for post secondary education. You qualify if mid-college career or haven’t enrolled. For more information or to apply visit OEDB.org.
