Ever since the new Consol Energy opened with its 66 suites, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the hottest ticket in town, but there are a few insider tricks that many fans should know about when attempting to obtain tickets to these “sold out events” to watch Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and new addition, Mike Comrie, Hilary Duff’s new hubby.
How do I know? My friends and I obtained tickets for the Stanley Cup Finals for two consecutive years in town that is until the Chicago Blackhawks stole the show and won the Stanley Cup. But this year, with the new arena many Pens fans like us need to become savvy to beat the crowds. Some of us are still waiting for those season tickets on the list. These are our keys to success.
Key 1: Get to know the box office Account Executive
Be friendly with the account executive at the box office. Account executives and sales representatives for NHL teams usually have the know-how of where the best seats are located be it upper level, lower level and even standing room. At the Consol Energy Center, standing room only is $58.90 on 200 level. A center ice 100 Level Club seat can cost you up to $212.35. Always check the official website for Pittsburgh Penguins individual seating.
Last Minute Strategy
According to Pens insiders and personal experience, it is best to call the box office in the morning, the day of the game, since many corporate sponsors tend to have tickets for their clients who can’t make the game. These tickets tend to pop up in the system for those like me who don’t plan ahead.
Key 2: Get the Student Discount
Ask about student discounts and promotions. For instance, the Peguins run promotions such as the American Eagle Student Rush. American Eagle Student Rush tickets go on sale at least one hour before game time at a designated CONSOL Energy Center gate for $25 dollars. Now that is a bargain!
Key 3: The Mini Plans
If you don’t have money to pay for the season ticket plan then go ahead and buy the mini plan. They run from $115 in double attack zones to $100 in sincle attack zones in the lower level each. In the upper bowl, around $65 can get you in center seating for each game. The cheapest is the single attack end zone for $45.00. In the mini plan, you get a pack of five games and the choice of seven packages.
Key 4: Don’t Buy from Scalpers
You run the risk of being scammed and might receive fake tickets. This happened during the Stanley Cup Finals and also during the home opener. Use Ticket Exchange, the network provided by season ticket holders to obtain legitimate tickets or StubHub. It is important to note that StubHub guarantees tickets with their Fan Protection plan.
Key 5: Use the Social Network
Social media sites are a great way to network with fans who have tickets and can’t make it to the game. Twitter and Facebook have groups dedicated to Pens fans many who are season ticket holders. Get to know them during team events and twitter meets. Always search for the hash tag #Pens on twitter.
