Earwigs can quickly become a household problem. Earwigs also look scary and actually can pinch you, which can deliver a decent amount of pain. They can come in your house through many different ways, or they may be consuming your entire garden. Here are some ways to get rid of them…
Dark and Damp
Earwigs love damp places, especially dark ones. That’s why you commonly find them under or in things. If you don’t want there to be so many of them, try turning the area into a light and dry area. This will be hard if the infestation is taking place in your garden.
Secure Holes And Cracks
Earwigs are small so they can crawl in a lot of small holes and openings in things such as windows or door. You can buy sealant that will fill these holes in.
If your problem is greater than this and you have tried many different things, you may look to bombing your house. A pest bomb will kill most any type of bug and pest in your house. Since it’s job is to kill bugs, it isn’t good for humans or pets, so you have to leave your house for several hours the day that the house is bombed. Make sure to take fish out of the house also.
On beautiful days, sometimes, people like to bring their indoor plants outdoors to get some sun. If you leave you plant outside for a few days, you may be bringing in bugs next time you bring that plant inside. Since earwigs like moist and damp areas, they will most likely like the soil that is in your plants and they will love to eat the plant itself.
Garlic Oil Sprays
For some reason, earwigs do not like garlic oil. If you spray this around the areas that they come in or live in, they will leave in a hurry. You can either buy some garlic oil or you can make your own. This method has worked for many.
You should make a trap, you can use any type of container, but a small box will work fine. Put some food that earwigs will enjoy, such as bran mixed with molasses, and mix it up with the boric acid powder. Earwigs like sweet things, so they tend to love that concoction. Punch holes in the sides; this will give the earwig a place to enter through. They will find their way in, like they always tend to do, and they will eat the food that has been left. Once they have eaten the food, they have also consumed the boric acid powder, which will kill them. This may take several days to a week to kill them, but it does work.
Frogs and Spiders
You may have to learn to love frogs and spiders because they will eat earwigs. You can make habitats outside near your house that are spider and frog friendly. They will have a great food source.
